Most people in the United States think illegal immigration is a serious problem. A solid majority oppose making it easier for illegal immigrants to become legal workers or citizens.

Some findings in recent polling:

Some 59 percent say they oppose allowing illegal immigrants to apply for legal, temporary-worker status, an NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll found.

More than six in 10, 62 percent, say they oppose making it easier for illegal immigrants to become citizens, according to a Quinnipiac University poll. Nine in 10 in that poll say they consider immigration to be a serious problem - with 57 percent of those polled saying very serious.

Three-fourths say the United States is not doing enough along its borders to keep illegal immigrants out, a Time Magazine poll found. The NBC-WSJ poll was taken in March, Quinnipiac in February and Time in January. The NBC-WSJ and Time polls surveyed about 1,000 adults and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. The Quinnipiac poll of 1,892 registered voters had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

Don't forget, Bush also said he would've signed the '94 clinton gun ban if it reached his desk. Fortunately we have people like Tom Delay who never let it reach his desk.

The Republicans have lost my support. I am through with this party. Spineless idiots who IGNORE THEIR BASE! Including this President....continually ignoring his base!!!! Spending, weak on terror and allowing illegals and terrorists into your country with so-called SWEEPING reform And yes, I will vote for democrats, at least I know where they stand.

Your sentiments are definitely common. Most people vote for the GOP now simply to slow the rate of the demise of this nation. Libs would significantly hasten the process just as Clinton did during his 8 years.

Funny that they run on one thing and then do another when in office.

Someone should start a blog/service/etc. that creates a consortium of sorts that endorses certain candidates that promise to fight illegal immigration. If they are not active in this, then for their following campaign their opponents are endorsed.

Can faith/trust in politicians be much lower than it is now?

12,000,000: number of illegals in the United States

$1000: cost of a one-way plane ticket to anywhere

(12,000,000) x ($1,000) = $12,000,000,000

add on another $18,000,000,000 for the infrastructer to make it all happen and boom...problem solved.

$30 Billion is chump change compared to the size of our bloated Federal budget.

I don't hear ANYONE fighting for my right to stay here. If any kind of amnesty (which seems a sure thing now) is not combined with expedition of the process for people who respect and love this country enough to follow the rules - I AM GOING TO BE PISSED.

Your story reminds me of a situation involving a friend of mine and his Argentinian wife: they had one hell of a time going through INS and doing things the "right" way. I have no idea why people who do the right thing and follow the rules get the shaft, while people who scoff at the law are championed.

You obviously don't live in an area with a lot of Mexicans.
A recent poll said that 80% of Mexicans dislike Americans.
While the stupid Americans have a generally positive view of Mexicans, despite illegal immigration.

They weren't flying American flags at those rallies, dude.
Welcome the reconquista.

Where would we put them? Back on their side of the border - that's where!

Oh, RI-i-i-i-i-ight, like our border really has stopped them from coming thus far...

"Could a dim-0-cratic WH and Congress (House and Senate) be any worse?"
No, the results would be the same.

Both parties crap on Conservatives, the Dims are just truthful about their hate of Conservatives.

Republicans are just Dimocraps playing to a different audience

On trains to Mexico, and busses or covered wagons.

...or on a giant boomerang because they'll just come back.

then they go home to Mexico, El Salvador, etc., only to return in the spring and therefore missing four-and-a-half months of crucial schooling--meanwhile the state holds the schools accountable on the Va. Standards of Learning requirements when those same kids can't pass their SOL exams.

Strawman argument, but to address it I'll let you know that Florida gives such children home tutoring - for free.

Just one more instance of illegals getting something that regular old citizens can only dream about.

So these Dimocraps disguised as Republicans have been the ones lowering our taxes, strengthening our military, putting conservatives on our judicial benches, etc.? So we SHOULD be voting for Democrats! Fascinating!!! Thank you for educating me.

These disgruntled "conservative" threads are truly enlightening.

Bwahahahahaaaa haaaaaa!!!!!!! [slapping thigh]

Ya don't get it. The felony is a big stick intended to cause the illegals to self-deport: "Go home and you might be able to come back later, legally. Or stick around, get arrested, and deported and NEVER EVER be able to come back legally." This might deter a lot of otherwise law-abiding illegals who want to stay here.

I'm the president's base in every sense of the word. I have voted for him in every primary and general election since he first ran for governor. I've donated to his war chests. I've even volunteered my time, a time or two. So I know that I'm his base, and he hasn't ignored me.

We wouldn't have to put them anywhere. Just cut off all the benefits they have here and they will do either one of two things: assimilate or go back home. Once those who intend to immigrate illegally see that the cash cow has been cut off, they won't even attempt to come here...

...trouble is, most don't care about benefits (that is the typical illegal). The "typical" illegal is a single male, 18-40, who lives in a rented trailer with 15 of his countrymen, only goes out (to the grocery store) on payday, pools $10 with the other 15 for a week of food, saves the rest and sends it back to his country, and only uses a medical benefit if sick or injured (of course, never pays bill). He'll then either return to his country and "live like a king" or send for his family to join him here; in which case there will be all kinds of benefits available to him.
