Most people in the United States think illegal immigration is a serious problem. A solid majority oppose making it easier for illegal immigrants to become legal workers or citizens.

Some findings in recent polling:

Some 59 percent say they oppose allowing illegal immigrants to apply for legal, temporary-worker status, an NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll found.

More than six in 10, 62 percent, say they oppose making it easier for illegal immigrants to become citizens, according to a Quinnipiac University poll. Nine in 10 in that poll say they consider immigration to be a serious problem - with 57 percent of those polled saying very serious.

Three-fourths say the United States is not doing enough along its borders to keep illegal immigrants out, a Time Magazine poll found. The NBC-WSJ poll was taken in March, Quinnipiac in February and Time in January. The NBC-WSJ and Time polls surveyed about 1,000 adults and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. The Quinnipiac poll of 1,892 registered voters had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

=====================

The polls will open and close in November 2006 - and the GOP's refrain heard could be "Well, we coulda' ..."

Could a dim-0-cratic WH and Congress (House and Senate) be any worse?

"Could a dim-0-cratic WH and Congress (House and Senate) be any worse?"

Perhaps, but it would be a close call.

We need to go down a different road. Let's visit Ireland and see what they did with their version of Our 14th Amendment (Anchor Babies)..

"On June 11, 2004 Irish voters voted in a national referendum to end automatic citizenship for any child born in Ireland regardless of the parents' residence status. Ireland was the last member of the European Union to allow pregnant foreigners to gain residence and welfare benefits as a result of birth in the country." Seattle Post Intelligencer, June 13, 2004.

We need to stop the abuse of our 14th Amendment PRONTO!

Did all these illegals come in during the last five years? I think not. The president is yet again stuck with a mess left by others. I am disappointed also with this but for me the War is most important right now. If people are questioning the War they are in a dreamland and never did understand what we are up against with Islam. Mexicans do not want us dead right now.

Me too, Blue Turtle. The RNC sent a letter wanting money. I sent the form back and told them I could no longer support the party because, among other things, they're spending like democrats and their unwillingness to defend our borders. They have betrayed their base and have become an "all talk, do nothing" party. My one little letter may not do much, but if they get enough feed back they may realize the danger they face at election time. I can't vote democratic, so I guess Libertarian is the way to go.

It cannot be a "felony" conviction that the House proposed for every one of the 11 million illegals because, with 2 million criminals incarcerated in a prison system that is 98 percent saturated, where would we put them?

Where would we put them?

Back on their side of the border - that's where!

They were humble people of color that come to destroy the United States when the citizens are too lazy to destroy it themselves.

You have serious problems. I can see why you'd be attracted to a thread like this. Heck, you're probably on a ping list.

Both are important issues that need to be dealt with

And you are correct .. this mess with the illegal didn't just start in 2000

I'm just saying that I think some have other agendas other then just the illegal mess

"Don't forget Meirs where they said...finally that no one else wanted the job."

LOL! Did they really say that? I work for a law firm and can produce, at a moment's notice, 12 persons any of whom would gladly accept the offer.

A "tough" bill. So part of the deal is that the Mexican aliens currently flouting our laws are going to be fined $1,000, twice.
OK. Yeah. Sure. Uh huh. And I'm going to teach my dog French and Spanish this summer . . . so he can make a living . . . before the Hale-Bopp comet returns and takes me away to K-Pax.
Any "tough bill" will probably be like the still-born gun control measures by RINOs and Dims: tougher on the law-abiding than the law-breakers. Recall the story last week of the illegal who ran over and killed an American, fled the scene, was finally arrested, then received a slap on the wrist.
AP March 29, 2019 Presidente Fox's reaction to the 9th "Let's Be Friends" undocumented workers legalization plan:
"Fines? We didn't pay them last time. We don' need no steenking fines!"
You can bet the final draft will have to meet with Fox's approval; in other words, it will be 'sop' to Americans and another reason for Mexicans to ignore our immigration laws.

Good comments - what you said. Unfortunately this is about who can buy the second largest voting block, since the 'hispanic' population has grown larger than the black population. This is also one of those polls that will receive very little coverage. It doesn't fit the template of either the old media or the current layer of leaders in Washington D.C.

I have been in this country for 10 years, LEGALLY. I work here LEGALLY. I pay taxes. I buy all my goods and services here. I do not send any money 'home' (this is home now). My kids have been in school here since they were toddlers. My oldest son is in military school and wants to become a Marine. I am in the final stages of getting my Green Card and have been stuck in limbo since the INS claimed a lack of visa numbers and slowed down the approval process to a crawl. Every 6 months I have to pay lawyers to renew Employment Authorization Documents; once a year I have to renew travel documents allowing my family to temporarily leave the USA if necessary (vacations, trips back to Canada to visit family, etc.). This costs me about $3000 a year. At the rate the INS is working, this will continue for another 3 or 4 years. That's $9000-$12,000 dollars I could be spending at local businesses or donating to charity, or to political candidates I support.

I don't hear ANYONE fighting for my right to stay here. If any kind of amnesty (which seems a sure thing now) is not combined with expedition of the process for people who respect and love this country enough to follow the rules - I AM GOING TO BE PISSED.
