Feinstein Calls Illegals Good 'Citizens', Lou Lets Loose
Today Show/NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

March 28, 2006

In all its cacophony and moments of absurdity, this morning's Today show segment on immigration was a supremely edifying example of the confusion, high emotion and complexity of the immigration debate. Matters reached their Alice-in-Wonderland apotheosis when Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California was shown in a Senate committee arguing that illegal immigrants are good . . . 'citizens.' Said Feinstein:

"They pay taxes, their children are Americans, they go to schools, they're good citizens and they're needed."

This was in line with the fait accompli argument advanced by La Raza representative Janet Murguia. She referred to what she estimated as the 11-12 million illegal aliens in the country as "people are working in backbreaking work that nobody else wants to do in this country. We need to . . . understand that they are already part of this country."

If a crowd of Americans marched in Mexico waving American flags, no matter how large, they would be beaten to a pulp by both the police and Mexican citizens --- perhaps rightly so.

There is a lesson there.

Not to mention that we paid for the land, even after we defeated Mexico in war. We paid $10 million for California, $5 million for what was considered New Mexico then;present day NM, & AZ and little pieces of NV, CO and I think a piece of Utah. When we decided we needed more land in the area of Southern AZ and NM for a southern railroad route, we bought that for another $10 million in the Gadsden Purchase.

I have no idea how anyone could claim any of this land is rightfully Mexico. We could have just taken their whole country after the Mexican War and not given them a cent. It was debated in congress at the time and the US decided they did not want Mexico because of the political chaos, poverty, and language and cultural differences.

"What about black people? They sit on their porch all day smoking something. "

Now that's one of the more racist things I've read in a while. You are a racist, and your arguements are weak. I would agree that America is in for some stormy times until the hippie liberals start dying off. The younger generation of Americans is watching, and not enjoying this at all.

But, I waste keystrokes, for anyone who would make such a comment is not a thinker. Enjoy your little prefabricated world.

"They pay taxes, their children are Americans, they go to schools, they're good citizens and they're needed."

Feminism supports women cheating on their husbands and immigrants cheating on Americans and American children. She says the same thing about boyfriends who take care of husband's kids after accusing them of domestic violence.

It would be especialy important to keep American kids out of reach of illegals' hands.

Who pays taxes to support those kids in America should be managing their education, end of story.

Watch for the ACLU and the rest of the liberal whores to get grinding!

They've been at it for a long time. We once did not have to educate the children of illegals or provide illegals with welfare. We do now...and it has made one hell of a mess.

Feinstein assumes the Hyphenate-Fellate position----whereby she leans over as her pockets are stuffed with illegals campaign donations.

Many come to be criminals, the payoff for crime is better in the US, and if caught- well our prison system is like a posh resort compared to rotting in a Mexican prison.

NO, free trade does not lead to off-shoring. Expensive business costs do. health packages, taxes, environmental laws, regulations hoops permits etc. Tariff work both ways. If you really think you can add tariffs without getting tariffs added in retaliation, you are day dreaming. Honda's etc. are manufactured in this country because of the COST to do so is cheaper. Japan isn't exactly a place where iron ore mines are in abundance. The raw materials are cheaper HERE. THATS why they are made here rather than Japan, and shipping costs as well.

It isn't because of "tariff"s, you are daydreaming. Tariffs have lost us many furniture manufacturer's. Why? because the lumber companies are pocketing the tariffs on Canadian lumber, while WE pay 30% more for it.

For example-Free trade allowed furniture companies to buy the raw material lumber, then build something from it, and sell it back- value added. Tariffs destroyed that. Because of the lumber tariffs, the company had to move across the border to build the product there. The Jobs were lost here, as well as any tax revenue from wages, spin off jobs like trucking, sales. What did America gain? NOTHING.

I assume this poster refers to Southern California being a part of Mexico a couple hundred years ago. Maybe these little fools should read a bit further on the "true history" of the area. Mexicans certainly were not the first to populate the area.

What an ugly bunch of misguided (STOOPID) fools.

Thats normal for a group of perverted Muck Divers in an immoral Dimorat sewer hole (Cesspool) like Sanfrahomlesbiansisco.

All vacation packages should contain a Warning Tag saying Visit At Your Own Health Risk.

NO, free trade does not lead to off-shoring.

If you belive this then you do not understand the "free trade" system very well.

Tariffs have lost us many furniture manufacturer'sffs have lost us many furniture manufacturer's

Furniture manufacturing was lost due to the slave labor wages paid in China and Indonesia, where most of the furniture in this country comes from today. I guess some people would rather have items in their homes made by communist slaves than free people, eh?

Because of the lumber tariffs, the company had to move across the border to build the product there.

Because of Foreign Direct Investment and incentives paid by OUR GOVERNMENT with OUR TAXES, and "free trade" agreements that give the competitive edge to the third world, businesses moved out of the country.

If you think we can live in a closed society, you just don't understand how global business has become. Look what happened when Bush tried to put tariffs on European steel. They were about to slap on tariffs on ALL American citrus, fruits, juices- practically the entire industry's exports would have been hit hard, and probably shut down. As well as tariffs on American steel, which is already uncompetitive because of it's unwillingness to modernize. We still do put tariffs on some foriegn goods, ONLY if we are justified in doing so. But we can't just slap on tariffs to protect Union jobs and uncompetitive businesses in todays global market. It isn't all about manufacturing either, making more and exporting more than we buy. It's not that simple or black and white.

Trade is buying and selling, we buy cheap and sell for more. It may look to you that it's a boatload of goods coming from China, but the importer/distributor may have bought the companies entire output, sells some here, and distributes it to other buyers in other countries. It's called wheeling and dealing, and is how a lot of Americans make money.
