ORDER AT THE BORDER (shock as hyphenates wave Mexican flags, chant "Mexico, Mexico")
NY POST ^ | 3/28/06 | EDITORIAL

Posted on 03/28/2006 4:48:47 AM PST by Liz

The full U.S. Senate today begins debating legislation dealing with what arguably is the most vexing domestic issue facing this country: the crisis of uncontrolled illegal immigration........what its proponents disingenuously refer to as the cause of "undocumented immigrants." It is not about ending legal immigration.

But as the president told new immigrants at a swearing-in ceremony, this is a nation of laws - and "to keep the promise of America, we must enforce the laws of America . . . No one is served by an immigration system that allows large numbers of people to sneak across the border illegally."

After all, 9/11 provided a deadly lesson in how dangerously porous America's borders truly are.

Problem is, what should be done with the 11 million or so illegal immigrants already here - and who continue to enter, mostly from Mexico, at the rate of 500,000 a year?

The House voted last December to criminalize illegal immigrants and those who aid them, as well as businesses that fail to verify the legal status of all employees.

The Senate - and President Bush - favor less-harsh measures.............

Their cause was not helped over the past few days by the hundreds of thousands of demonstrators who took to the streets across the nation to protest any crackdown on illegal immigration. Folks who have been asked to support outsiders seeking to share in the "American dream" likely were shocked by the thousands waving Mexican flags and chanting "Mexico, Mexico."

The marches were provocative...........Is it not reasonable also to see in them an implicit bid to effectively move Mexico's border north?

All the more reason why simply declaring what is illegal to be legal won't work; nor will blanket amnesty do the trick. Yet that essentially is what the Judiciary Committee approved late yesterday...............

We've had huge amnesty programs before --it didn't solve anything.

We will have it shoved down our throats again. If anyone thinks the Socialist left hasn't true control of the future of our Republic (now being perverted into a decaying Socialist Welfare state) then they are dreaming. Our Republic is being lost.

They are traitors and turncoats, true.
They are defiant just as the defiant brats who walked out of school to demonstrate.

The immigrant-illegal con game is so predictable: They whine about coming here b/c they want only to get "menial jobs" to help out their poverty-stricken families
in "underdeveloped countries."

Then, before you can say "hasta la vista, baby," working class born-American taxpayers are footing the bills for immigrants' medical needs, welfare, food stamps, housing, all levels of schooling including college, child care, maternity benefits, and so on.

Taxpayers are subsidizing immigrants' daily food intake, housing, reduced mortgages, free medical, education, reduced in-state tuition and out of state tuition fees. We also foot the legal bills when they start suing if we don't provide these goodies pronto.

Lastly, and more ominous, is that they become hyphenated voting blocs, demanding representation in the US Congress, state legislatures and beyond so that they can get even more government benefits. They bring with them their utter contempt for our efforts to maintain a civilied society under our Constitution.

OK, did I hear you say "underdeveloped countries?" The government of Mexico---with all of its oil revenue----needs to be taking care of its own people, not "outsourcing' them as wards of American taxpayers. Mexico can well-afford it. Mexico has more "Forbes" billionaires, 11, than all but eight other nations. It has more billionaires than Saudi Arabia, Switzerland or Taiwan. It also has more than 85,000 millionaires.

According to a CNN report, Mexico sits on oil reserves worth about $400 billion, but Mexico's state-owned oil company, Pemex, doesn't have the investment funds to tap those reserves, and Mexico's Congress refuses to allow foreign investment in Pemex. However, some observers say this is due to Mexican gov't corruption, and the obsession to line their own pockets.

Adding insult to injury American taxpayers are subsidizing foreign aid transfers to Mexico. According to Visa International--which is now clamoring for a share of the transfer fees--American money sent South of the Border by illegals constitutes $38 BILLION this year alone constituting Mexico's second largest most profitable industry.

America should mandate proof for all cash transfers out of the US and/or force all transferring agencies -- banks, credit unions, Amex, Western Union to collect a substantial withholding tax -- 50%, say -- on every unexplained foreign remittance.

Mexico is a wealthy oil-producing neighbor of the US forces its poor people to flee to the US to work and then send money back home. Mexico has no welfare safety nets, health insurance for its people and no Social Security System.

The US even provides the defense umbrella to protect Mexico, so they have no real defense expenses.

America needs to seal our borders and let Vincente Fox know that we will cut off every penny in aid he gets from the United States.

Ths unmitigated contempt for America, and working-class, tax-paying Americans, cannot go unchallenged. The sense of entitlement these people have is outrageous-----that the rest of us owe
them a living. And that US citizens, and the US government, exist for their convenience while they break our laws, at will.

The only thing between us and
camouflage-clad federales patrolling our streets with shoulder holsters is the sacrosanct US rule of law.

I watched an interesting documentary last night about three Hondurans as they traveled through Mexico on their way to the US. A few eye openers.

A. If caught by the Mexican police, they are immediately deported.

B. Mexico has a law which makes it illegal to provide any kind of assistance to the foreign immigrants. Giving money, food, shelter or water can result in a big fine or incarceration.

C. They were preyed heavily upon by Mexican gangs. This particular group was robbed of $100 US.

D. This particular group was finally caught by Mexican police, three weeks into their journey. Another Honduran kid they joined up with had managed to conceal a little money from the gangs. A 10 peso bribe to the police resulted in them being released with a big bag of water and food.

Conclusion: No sympathy for these Atzlan invaders.

Compare Congress' actions to the Dubai-ous ports deal. They were falling all over themselves exclaiming they were listening to the American people on this subject. Every Congress critter yelled in self-righteous self-serving indignation that hey would act. But on this border and immigration deal they are not listening to a single word we say!...................

"Don't fall for this BS. The Mexicans have done nothing to entitle them to say "they own Texas.""

After they occupy an area with their wonderful "culture" and turn it into a pig pen like Mexico they will move on to the next land of opportunity and repeat the process, and repeat, and repeat.

I understand the desire for a better life and these are, for the most part, good hard working family values people, but they must be missing the part of the brain that makes one realize the connection between their culture and their poverty.

It is very simple to become an American (assuming that is what they really want), obey our laws, speak English and every one of these threads go away.

In Grand Rapids Michigan, we had the biggest political rally of the last 3 years. The Pro Illegal Rally had some interesting points though.

As I scanned the crowd, I counted 15 big American Flags and about 36 mexican flags. There were many more of each, but that was about the rigth ratio. In fact, there were more American Flags than any other rally. Something I am sure disheartened the Left.

Another thing where the children. There were thousands of them. Not seen much at other rallies.

This Bill needs to be passed but at least here in Michigan there was no burning of our Flag that I witnessed.

Semper Fi.

Mexico owned land which is now Texas for a very short time. Maybe 20 years. The time before that, the land belonged to Spain.

Good point. Moreover, the Southwest US "Mexicans" who were Mexican from 1820 to 1846 were not Aztecs, Toltecs, or Chichimecs, nor did they speak Nahuatl. The "Zapatista" claim to the Southwest US is less "ancient" than the Russian claim to Alaska.

Mexico is not N. Korea or Iran. Demonstrations aren't illegal in Mexico.

Last time I walked over to Mexicali there were signs posted everywhere saying "it is illegal to hand out political literature."

Demonstrate freely? You can't even hand out a handbill south of the border!

Bush has been asleep at the wheel since we elected him on this issue and NOW he comes up with a line like this: "No one is served by an immigration system that allows large numbers of people to sneak across the border illegally."

Careful Jorge, your agenda is looking a bit threadbare.

The law doesn't seem to be stopping them from coming up here... Why would one against political handouts be any different?

I don't know about handing out political literature.
I seem to remember rallies in the past. Maybe I'm wrong about demonstrations not being illegal.
Anyone more familiar with current laws on demonstarting in Mexico, feel free to correct me.

Its certainly possible to protest in Mexico. What Mexico forbids is outside agitation. Mexico has often allowed refuge to foreign political dissidents (i.e. Trotsky's last years were spent in Mex. City) but forbids them from any political action.

Don't fall for this BS.

I'm not. I merely pointed out that some of the more militant members of this movement clearly think that the SW USA belongs to Mexico. This is an invasion, pure and simple, whether overtly stated or not, and it should be treated as such. Why our politico's are going against the grain on this issue is a mystery to me.

Remember in November!
