AP) LOS ANGELES The marches against proposed immigration legislation are spreading in Los Angeles.
Some 1,500 L.A. students who have walked out of class are gathered outside Los Angeles City Hall.
L.A. school district officials said some 1,000 students from Los Angeles High School on the 4600 block of Olympic Avenue have walked out and are reportedly heading toward Hollywood High School on the 1500 block of North Highland Avenue.
Hundreds of students have already left Huntington Park High School, some scaling fences that school officials locked to avoid a walkout.
L.A. school district spokeswoman Monica Carazo said students have walked out from at least eight schools ranging from the San Fernando Valley to the wealthy coastal enclave of Pacific Palisades.
Carazo said teachers and administrators are accompanying the students to look after their safety.
The L.A. Police Department said the force is on tactical alert as a precaution because of the protests. But no arrests or major confrontations have been reported.
You don't have any faith in our leaders?
Shame on you! Turn your radio and TV OFF!
Thank you!

Dear Mayor Villaraigosa,
When are you going to restore order on the streets of your city and in the schools?
---crickets---
When?
---crickets---
As to LAUSD - if this were a white student protest they would have the police out in full riot gear and all would be permanently expelled.
It is bad, and it is good.
OOPSY...don't forget more $$$$$$ from you and I through the Education Department...Yikes...
Illegal's children who don't want their parents deported? I wonder what would happen to them if they were?
ping
ExCUSE me. I do NOT watch TV!
I take that as an offense. A slap across the face. I am telling on you.
And next time that Mervyn's thing happens....YOU'RE gonna be in HeapBigTrouble!
MY Senator is fighting against even Republicans on this committee...
Unfortunately, Cornyn and Kyl keep trying to fight against making the illegals here able to become citizens without going back to their countries and getting in line to apply for citizenship.
He and Kyl have LOST every vote.
These protests wer not good timing at all. Very poor planning, too close to the Muslim riots in France.
Bad strategy.
Where else is Mexico going to get such a lucrative support system?
So disappointed and sorry to hear that.
But not surprised?
Not in Cuba.
Thanks! Love your handle :-). It's good to be home.
You will have a great time "learning the ropes" and discovering all the wonders of Free Republic!
I am angry, but not enough to go to the protest in Crawford.
I've been thinking about it. I can't go to protest at the President's ranch; that is just too low.
Especially knowing who started that kind of thing, the ditch witch.
We can express righteousness and power in other ways.
I am already amazed. It is a whole new world then even when I was just browsing. This thing is HUGE. If you have any tips you feel like sharing feel free to send them my way. Best to you!
LOL!
We can express righteousness and power in other ways.
That is for sure and more effective ways as well.
What I want to know is why the LAUSD is able to give exact numbers how many kids are participating in this. If they are asked to document how many kids can't read, there's all sorts of hell to pay. How many are protesting against the government of the U.S.? Why just a moment, we'd be happy to provide that.
YES! You are so right!
