'Evil' world worried Pope
The Scotsman ^ | March 27, 2006 | Staff

POPE John Paul II died worrying that the world seemed dominated by the powers of evil, according to a sermon he had prepared for the day after his death, his successor Pope Benedict said yesterday.

"To humanity, which at times seems lost and dominated by the powers of evil, by selfishness and fear, the risen Lord offers the gift of his love which forgives, reconciles and opens up the spirit to hope," the sermon said.

Pope Benedict said: "It was written he should leave us on the eve when he was to have pronounced these words."

Yes, often times it seems so.

Yes. It does. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, it just seems far away right now.

POPE John Paul II died worrying that the world seemed dominated by the powers of evil,

No kidding, now where did that come from?

Is it possible he was flim flammed by the "Prince of the Power of the Air"?

Okay, maybe it is because it is late, but I don't get what you meant by your response. Although I do like the alliteration in the language, it still doesn't register understanding.

"Prince of the Power of the Air" is another name for Satan. Eph. 2:2

Hmm, that's odd I didn't have a bit of difficulty understanding what I said and/or meant!

Get rid of muslims and liberals and that would get rid most of the evil.

Good for you. It sounds like you have effective communication with yourself. Bravo.

I wonder what the world would be like if Jesus was to have responded that way. HMMM. Once again bravo. Pride must fly alongside the Prince of the power of the air - Eph. 2:2 " Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: "

"dominated by the powers of evil, by selfishness and fear"

Is he talking about covering up for abusive priests? Not quite sure what to make of this one.

I read the posts after the article and I have one conclusive idea.

Each and everyone of us needs to be accountable for our daily actions.

Do our best to follow the 10 commandments and check the list of the 7 Deadly so as not to fall.

Evil is not around us. It is us, and only through the Holy Spirit can we be lifted up to a Loving spirit worthy to be in God's presence.

I clearly see what the Pope is trying to convey.

What more Grace God must have on those who are ignorant to sinfulness then those of us who know better and still act so righteously.

"Get rid of Muslims and liberals and that would get rid most of the evil."

- You need to get rid of what’s causing their evil...Moral Relativism. The Golden Rule vs. Moral Relativism is the going to be the next philosophical showdown and debate of the 21st Century. Once you prove that Moral Relativism is false/wrong/evil and denounce all its forms then most of the ideologies based on it will cease to hold any power with people. Ideologies like Islamism, Fascism, Communism, Socialism, Leftism, Hedonism, etc., will all fall like dominoes before the light of truth.

You wrote: "What is a good description of "Moral Relativism"?"

- Here is a decent primer.

"Relativism is sometimes identified (usually by its critics) as the thesis that all points of view are equally valid. In ethics, this amounts to saying that all moralities are equally good; in epistemology it implies that all beliefs, or belief systems, are equally true."
