Bush Shows Strategy for Keeping Hill Majorities.
Washington Post ^ | March 25, 2006 | Jim VandeHei

Posted on 03/26/2006 1:51:08 PM PST by FairOpinion

President Bush on Friday provided a preview of his two-front strategy for protecting the Republican congressional majority in an ominous political climate: hammer Democrats on national security and the economy, and raise millions of dollars for embattled GOP candidates such as Rep. Michael E. Sodrel (Ind.).

A Democratic majority in the House or the Senate would be likely to launch hearings and investigations into the war and other issues, and would be positioned to stop the Bush agenda in the remaining two years of the Bush presidency. "The Democrats' plan for 2006? Take the House and Senate, and impeach the president," Ken Mehlman, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, warned in a fundraising e-mail sent to party members this week. "With our nation at war, is this the kind of Congress you want?"

Cheney portrayed the entire Democratic leadership as wobbly in the fight against terrorism.

"Leading Democrats have demanded a sudden withdrawal from the battle against terrorists in Iraq -- the very kind of retreat that Osama bin Laden has been predicting," Cheney said. "And with that sorry record, the leaders of the Democratic Party have decided to run on the theme of competence. If they're competent to fight this war, then I ought to be singing on 'American Idol.' "

I hope the Republicans keep up telling the unvarnished truth about the Dems to the American people.

Unless he supports this immigration bill HR 4437, the Republicans can turn tail on him and run.

Hey, if the dems take a strong stance on immigration, the pubbies might have missed the boat on that one. And if the pubbies are behind the curve, they'll lose seats.

Somebody please tell me what good it is to protect the American way of life over in Iraq while we turn into a third world craphole at home...

With our nation at war

Gee, it is? Hundreds of thousands of foreigners took over the streets of America yesterday to intimidate the House from passing a law.

No one from the Army stopped them. No one from the police stopped them (actually they abetted them). And the President took time out to explain how he agrees with them, and wishes to reward them.

In what alternate reality would you say that this resembles a "country at war"?

They need to fight the Dems with their own words as they have been hitting back at the media on the biased Iraq coverage. People want to support the President but it is hard to do when your leaders are not leading the charge. The President is just going to have to realize that the game of trying to make nice with Democrats is never going to work and it is time to hit them like never before no matter what the media says.

The media's obsession with the Presidents poll numbers is proof that this has been the strategy of the Democrats and their media accomplices for this election.

Driving down his poll numbers with the misreporting and selective reporting on everthing happening in the world, and the theme of low poll numbers glaring in virtually every article on any subject these days, they then taint his ability to help his own.

They gonna get away with it?

If you think the Dems are strong on illegal immigration, and better than the Republicans, you need a reality check.

At what point did the W.o.T. turn into a war on immigrants? Y'all need to form a new political party. I want no part of yours.

Do you understand the difference between immigration and illegal immigration? There is no war on "immigrants" as you stated. You sound like the MSM.

What do you think of the photo here from the recent "rally" of illegal aliens?

http://americanpatrol.com/06-FEATURES/060325-MEXIS-TROMP-FLAG/MexisTrompFlag060324TUS_.html

"Photo at left shows what a group of Mexicans did with American flags after they used them during a demonstration outside Senator Kyle's office in Tucson. "The disrespect these people show for our flag is consistent with the disrespect they show for our laws and our culture," said Glenn Spencer of American Patrol.
As he approached to take the photo at left, a group of Mexicans and others thought he wanted to take their picture, so they posed for him, totally oblivious to the significance of the flags lying on the ground in front of them (see photo).

Spencer also reported that rally organizers walked on the flags as they loaded their signs after the rally."

I am for ending an unlawful invasion, and punishing all who are wrongfully hiring illegal aliens. Which ever party best supports that effort will get my vote, and right now the GOP efforts are counterproductive to outright aiding and abetting.

Read post #4

You can interpret it however you like. I'm just trying to make sense of this strange assault on immigrants rather than a more specific one against illegal entry into / overstay in the U.S. Those against all immigration are simply un-American.

This is the perfect strategy. Now if only the those in the GOP can stop being weak-kneed over fighting this WOT and stand firm and tell of our successes the GOP will do just fine come Nov.

Certainly can't hammer the Democrats on spending or immigration, now can they?

I'll agree we have some good people in the House but when it comes to illegal immigration issues in the Senate please explain to me how Arlen Specter, Sam Brownback or John McCain is any better than a democrat?

Democrats = American Communist Party
Republicans= American Socialist Party

The only difference between them is that one of them gives lip service to religious values; while the other would extinguish all religion.

Let me see, W believes that ILLegal aliens are a good thing. A porous border allowing bad guys to bringnasty weapons to a house near you. Raising money for the GOP? Why would I support spineless jelly-fish who will not enforce our laws, and create and pass gigantic social welfare spending bills, signed by our President.

Surely you jest. The dems are PRO-illegals. They represent about 10% of the dem base in border states. They are aligned to the hilt w/Chicanos por la Cause, etc.

In Arizona the Janet Reno look/act alike Gov Janet Napolitano keeps saying she wants Nat'l Guard on the border but she won't allow it to happen. Typical luing dem!
