Angelides proposes tax changes (INCREASES) to raise teacher pay
Sacramento Bee ^ | March 24, 2006 | Kevin Yamamura

State Treasurer Phil Angelides said Friday that as governor he would close corporate tax loopholes and raise taxes on the highest income earners to increase education funding for K-12 schools, the same tax proposals he's made to cut tuition at California's public colleges. Speaking at a Capitol rally organized by the California Federation of Teachers to criticize Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for his education funding policies, Angelides called for higher teacher salaries and a full commitment to the state's Proposition 98 guarantee.

"It's time for a governor who's actually willing to ask multimillionaires to chip in, ask corporations to chip in, so we can have the best-educated kids and the best economy in the world," Angelides said.

Angelides also has proposed higher taxes on high-income earners and closing corporate tax loopholes to finance lower tuition. And he backs director Rob Reiner's Proposition 82, a June ballot initiative to increase taxes on individuals earning more than $400,000 and couples earning more than $800,000 to pay for preschool for any family that wants it.

Very true. In the 2004 election, tossing out the Bay Area would have barely given Bush the state. Of course, that's a heck of a lot of votes. But it does say something for the rest of the state.

Unfortunately, California is becoming so swamped with illegal immigrants that it's probably gone permanently blue. No telling how many of them are voting in the elections, either.

Nope, this is going to be a big payoff to the teacher's union.

---

And pretty timely, too. Aren't the unions in load of debt after fighting off Arnold's "paycheck protection" initiative?

Luckily, no one knows who Angelides is outside of Sacramento.

Let's see: California is allowing hordes of invaders who aren't going to pay a dime for any of their 5 children per mother to go to school. Meanwhile, they're going to be sucking down welfare checks. Maybe living in government subsized housing. Driving around without insurance.

And California is going to raise taxes on those who keep the state afloat to pay for it.

Sounds like a great idea to me!

You can keep kvetching as you usually do but reality is reality.

Throw your insults. I'm just telling you like it is.

Do Californians want increased taxes, that is the question.

It does not matter what Californians want...the juggernaut is in motion and there is no stopping it.

The age of socialist quasi dictatorship is here...

You can absolutly count on massive increases in taxes and the size of government in California...

There is absolutly nothing you can do to stop the runaway government in California or the Washington DC...

Count on it...

San Francisco,San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Sonoma counties.

There is going to be a whole lot of shakin' here someday and I hope I'm not around for it.

If you lived in a large city you would understand what is going on.

That may be part of her problem.
She will not even acknowledge Angelides as a threat.

" California would spiral into financial Heck if Angelides were ever elected"

I am plunked right down here in the middle of the state as I type. Angelides isn't personally the problem. The problem is liberalism. If California "spirals into financial Heck" it will be because of liberalism. I propose that there are already enough liberals running California that the "spiral" is inevitable. With few exceptions conservatives are not in political power anywhere in CA. Arnold is FAR...FAR... from conservative, especially now that he has been neutered (once your neutered you can only be a liberal or something called a "moderate republican") Alas, conservatives will be "out-of-power" until AFTER Cali crashes. Therefore I say "yes" to raising teachers' pay. What sounds fair... $85,000 for nine months work? 100,000? Lets go... let the crashing begin.
