and
He was a true folk or naive painter, and he was a good honest man. Some of his work is very effective, if you consider it for what it is - self-taught expository painting.
We have one of his angels, very like this one, and it's a pleasant thing to look at (it hangs in the kitchen).
Everytime I see a Kincade I am reminded of a bowl of suger ladened penny candy and my teeth begin to ache.
After Reading Numerous Freeper's critque of Kincaid's art...I am impressed. Kincaid has no appeal to me, I have seen Hallmark Greeting cards that aspire to greater art, than Kincaid.
He is all about marketing, nothing more than that.
I am not a big fan of Andrew Wyeth . . . because his light never changes, and his subject matter doesn't really. But he's an accomplished technician (his dad, whose work I much prefer, made sure of that.)
These 3 paintings give you some idea of N.C.'s vast range of technique.
As Mark Twain said about his English-Portuguese dictionary, you can't open a page without finding richness.
Yeah, but no way is he as cool as L'il Eddie.
oh no need! I DO HAVE ROCKWELL ON MY WALLS!!:) I was raised on his stuff! lol I like both! I really like americana art
If you ever visit Massachusetts, be sure to visit the Rockwell Museum.
Like most people, my exposure to his art was through calendars, plates and greeting cards.
But I assure you, when you see the original works, they just blow you away. The man had enormous talent, and seeing the original art is breathtaking.
I like it better than 90% of the stuff I have seen in the Museum of Fine Art in Boston.
I am laughing so hard here it brought my husband over to see what was up. I just found out he actually likes this stuff. Now that is funny, as hes a biker who usually just likes skulls and that sort of stuff. Now I have something to do for the rest of the night and something to hold over him. I am sure he wont like his bro's knowing he likes this crap. He's trying to back down now saying its the cards he likes. Thanks for making my night. I get to tease him all night haha.
His scenes are on hundreds of jig saw puzzles that sell for about $10 and my sister has bought and assembled everyone of them plus hundreds of others...
ROFLMAO!!! That's great.
I have 2 sets of Kincaide paintings that have been made into jigsaw puzzles for the computer (including the original version of the one you posted). I find them very relaxing to do. While I may not hang them on my walls, I do find them attractive. They make me think of old times, or some fairy land. Ok, I'm no art historian. I just find the puzzles pretty and fun to do when I want to escape from the dissertation.
Rockwell had a tremendous talent. The "art community" looked down on him strictly because he supported his family as an illustrator. So what? It beats waiting tables while hoping that some foundation or gallery is going to "discover" you . . .
We caught the Rockwell exhibit when it came through Atlanta. You're right - seeing his work in the original is an entirely different matter. The boy was GOOD!
Tired of paintings of light?...here is a dark painting
maybe adding some dark clouds will make his "art" a bit more bearable. The guy is a hack ....
