Thousands line Phoenix street in protest march
Thousands of supporters of immigrant rights march to the office of U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl in Phoenix. Many said they were most incensed by what they see as punitive immigration reform proposals, especially one approved by the House in December that would make unlawful presence in the United States a felony.
(Phoenix, Arizona-AP) March 24, 2006 - One of the protesters in a big march in Phoenix says immigrants are "here for the American Dream."
Police estimate at least 10,000 people joined the rally calling for more "humane" changes to immigration laws.
A 50-year-old resident of the city says the punitive measures being eyed on Capitol Hill are "racist." He says, "You're not going to find terrorists outside a Home Depot looking for a job."
The protesters marched to US Senator Jon Kyl's office. He's sponsoring an immigration bill.
In Georgia, activists say thousands of workers took part in a work stoppage Friday to protest a measure passed by the state House Thursday.
It would deny state services to illegal immigrants and impose charges on their wire money transfers.
About 200 protesters gathered on the steps of the Georgia Capitol. Some had Mexican flags and others carried signs reading: "Don't panic, we're Hispanic."
No; I'll leave that to the courts and juries.
Your Red Herring atacks get boreing after a dozen or so.
Actually I am not unhappy with current law, but we seem unable to get the Executive branch to enforce them.
"A 50-year-old resident of the city says the punitive measures being eyed on Capitol Hill are "racist." He says, "You're not going to find terrorists outside a Home Depot looking for a job."
The hippocracy just cracks me up. The Republican congressmen are the racists, yet the protestors are the ones saying that all Mexicans stand "outside a Home Depot looking for a job."
Yes, now get over it.
I don't care. If your charity makes a habit out of comforting illegal aliens, I am all for you being shut down.
It is charities like that that contribute to illegals being able to live here.
There are a lot of things Mexico won't let foreigners get away with that we are supposed to.
Yep.......if they can't get "hot meals" on their own, they need to go back home.....sheesh. The Priests are just providing another form of welfare, and should be serving US Citizens, or else go across the border and serve Mexican citizens there, but do NOT perpetuate a problem here.
Yes, I can. And I already have.
You just refuse to see and accept the truth.
Reality is a bitch for you folks, isn't it?
Goodbye.
"Some of those marching are U.S. citizens - can U.S. citizens no longer protest either?!"
Let them march. It just fires up those opposed to illegal immigrants being here.
LOL - someone brings up a MEXICAN law prohibiting protests by foreigners, and I am the one accused of bringing up a RED HERRING in reply?! This is funny.
This is a myth. Contractors cannot nor would they want minimum wage workers. Most of the illegals they hire are paid 4-6 bucks over minimum wage as a starting pay.
The workers that the contractors get are typically more skilled and more motivated than the balance of illegals who take jobs in kitchens, maid services etc...getting paid minimum wage.
I was at work and I saw this right outside our window! I saw some carrying the US flag but also saw a few carrying the Mexican flag! Everyone at work was upset not to mention these illegals tying up the traffic. Since when did illegals have the right to do this?
5,900,000 residents stayed home.
Did YOU know that an illegal aliens has NO right to be here?
By the way, thanks for keeping these threads active. Everyone needs to see how bad this has gotten. So bad that an American citizen will stand by illegal aliens before he will stand with his fellow Americans.
"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." Theodore Roosevelt, 1997
Good luck, then, with those on this thread who do want soup kitchens outlawed.
"It sure would be nice if the immigration boys would get together with the cops and load these mobs onto buses and take them back to Mexico."
I would just round them ALL up and deposit them in Tijuana. Make the Mexican government go through the pain of deporting those who are NOT Mexican, and we can make noises that it's racism they are trying to return Americans to the U.S.
1997???
Do you work for Loretta Sanchez?
Just what effect has all the other laws passed already had on illegal immigration? Hmnnnnn. Do you expect this to be any different?
