Thousands line Phoenix street in protest march
Thousands of supporters of immigrant rights march to the office of U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl in Phoenix. Many said they were most incensed by what they see as punitive immigration reform proposals, especially one approved by the House in December that would make unlawful presence in the United States a felony.
(Phoenix, Arizona-AP) March 24, 2006 - One of the protesters in a big march in Phoenix says immigrants are "here for the American Dream."
Police estimate at least 10,000 people joined the rally calling for more "humane" changes to immigration laws.
A 50-year-old resident of the city says the punitive measures being eyed on Capitol Hill are "racist." He says, "You're not going to find terrorists outside a Home Depot looking for a job."
The protesters marched to US Senator Jon Kyl's office. He's sponsoring an immigration bill.
In Georgia, activists say thousands of workers took part in a work stoppage Friday to protest a measure passed by the state House Thursday.
It would deny state services to illegal immigrants and impose charges on their wire money transfers.
About 200 protesters gathered on the steps of the Georgia Capitol. Some had Mexican flags and others carried signs reading: "Don't panic, we're Hispanic."
You're wasting your time arguing with the tiny squeaking minority.
Not at all - I don't want Priests arrested at soup kitchens though - Hillary's campaign would eat that up (pardon the pun).
My concern is the legitimate charity work, not coffers.
5,900,000 residents stayed home.
You "guarantee" that? Perhaps you have not read the "cluster-bomd" vitriol here lately?
Did you have an answer to my question?
Did you know they have entered this country illegally?
Did you know they are bringing a health hazard into this country?
Did you know they are backrupting state coffers for health care that they do not deserve nor qualify for.
Did you know that they are sucking federal relief programs dry?
Did you know that their children are over-taxing the school systems?
There you go - that's another right to include with their First Amendment rights as well.
Perhaps not, but you will find criminals who care nothing about our laws and are more than willing to spit on every immigrant who came into this country legally.
When it takes people who come here legally years and a lot of money to stay here I am not very sympathetic to illegals. When I was in college I had a good friend from the Netherlands. She was a vegetarian and an environmentalist type, but not one to cram the idea down anyone's throat. Although she was caught nibbling on a chicken wing once. She was intelligent, a good friend, and had a place to stay. She loved being in the U.S. and wanted to stay, but not having enough money to renew her student visa she went home in hopes of returning someday.
Another guy I knew had a roommate from South Africa. When his visa expired and he was found out he was deported back to South Africa. How is it they can deport others, but Mexicans who are here illegally can't just be sent back over the border?
Whew!
Veins now going back to where they belong!
Good thing it's Friday, huh? Thanks.
Red Herring alert. How about a Secure ID as the legislature has passed and not yet implimented?
"One hot meal, or a roof over their head for one night, is not "harboring" though."
No, that's a way stop and is aiding and abetting.
If they knowingly aid illegal immigration, I do.
In reality, it's highly unlikely that anyone that operates a soup kitchen will ever be targeted, unless the feds can prove the folks know the immigration status of their clients.
What this targets are those churches along the border that have known sanctuary policies and encourage illegal immigrants to come to the church and get help.
Yes.
Did you know they are bringing a health hazard into this country?
Some, yes.
Did you know they are backrupting state coffers for health care that they do not deserve nor qualify for.
Name one State that has declared BK.
Did you know that they are sucking federal relief programs dry?
Nope - the feds are the ones who print / borrow money.
Did you know that their children are over-taxing the school systems?
In some areas, yes - we homeschool our son, so there's ONE illegal alien's student who can be absorbed no problem.
Now, can you answer my question to you?
And I agree that food services, etc. shouldn't be criminalized.
