SOUTH EL MONTE, Calif. - Explosives experts defused a homemade bomb found in the backseat of a car early Friday after the driver was stopped for speeding in this eastern Los Angeles suburb, authorities said.
The bomb was defused safely, but several industrial businesses in the area were evacuated and a main boulevard was closed for more than three hours.

In Hollywood they prefer the term "Freedom Fighter."
It could be a johnny bin laden type...born and bred here in the USA.
El Monte is far from LAX... about 40 miles.
We won't know anything for the next 24 hours as Jack Bauer interrogates the subject, CTU will be attacked, and some innocent civilians will die....
Evil, white, heterosexual males, every one.
ROFL! :-)
Developing...
Students and others have taken to the streets in south Los Angeles, waving Mexican flags, in "protest" of H.R. 4437, the Sensenbrenner immigration bill.
Will we fight for it?
100% of the 9/11 terrorists were Muslim and Middle Eastern looking. Tim was the exception that proves the rule.
High School kid with a liter pop bottle, warm water, and dry ice.
Builds pressure for about 5 minutes, and sounds like a M-80.
Leaves a few plastic shards, nothing else.
lol Nice!
"You better be careful -- slander the Lutherans, and you'll end up with a dangerous potluck in your front yard.
Don't make them bust out the Cremo Greenbean Casserole on you!"
True, true. Also some dark morning you might look out of the bay window and see hundreds of silent Lutherans just standing there....drinking coffee.
ROFL! Finally got it. Gads I am slow today. :-)
(AP) SOUTH EL MONTE A homemade bomb was found Friday on the back seat of a car stopped for a traffic violation, authorities said.
The bomb was safely defused, but several industrial businesses were evacuated and a main boulevard was closed for about four hours.
Authorities did not know the size or power of the explosive device or its intended use.
The driver, whose identity was not immediately released, was arrested for investigation of being under the influence of a narcotic and could face charges of possessing an explosive device and an altered firearm, authorities said.
The driver was pulled over about 5 a.m. in a red hatchback for speeding in El Monte, a suburb about 15 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, sheriff's Sgt. Paul Patterson said.
Deputies "observed a package in the rear of the vehicle with wires coming out of it," sheriff's Sgt. Don Manumaleuna said.
The sheriff's arson-explosives detail was called and determined that the package was an "improvised explosive device," Manumaleuna said.
The bomb squad contacted the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Manumaleuna said.
May not be a TROP issue
Looks like it may be drug related.
And if you had happened to have some bags of fertilizer on your trailer with the drums, what then? Whether or not he was used is irrelevant, just because you're a "big white guy" does not make not suspicious.
No it doesn't.
You were stating that 10 to one it was a Muslim. Meaning that you feel pretty confident it was a Muslim therefore you are giving odds to anyone to take the bet.
I can bet a $1 and you would pay $10 since you feel it is a long shot that you will lose...
I personally think you are wrong and would take this bet anytime... I'd even give you odds that this was not a Muslim.
Hmmmm....
I can see now how I might have not worded it correctly.
My bad.
hehe... no prob
A simpler way to look at what you were saying was...
I will bet my $10 to your $1 that this was a Muslim.
With all the socialists illegals demonstrating today in LA and AZ you think its Islamists? Nope more than likely the illegals!
