KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - Senior Muslim clerics demanded Thursday that an Afghan man on trial for converting from Islam to Christianity be executed, warning that if the government caves in to Western pressure and frees him, they will incite people to ``pull him into pieces.''

Exactly. This is indeed a test. In the end we will probably give the man asylum in the USA. Okay, but then let's hear no more about ROP and democracy in the Islamic world.
"That's cause we ain't played Cowboys and Muslims yet, but I do reckon it's a comin."
LOL and we have a cowboy in the WH with enough nuclear explosives to blow the earth off its axis.
I agree, It's sickening to know that Americans are still dieing to save Afganistan and they are going to try to convince us that it's a democratic constiution and they are only abiding the law? Screw these moslem a$$holes, If this man dies, I will personally vote for independent this year..... Bush is starting to piss me off with this too, and I have been an avid suporter....
Rubbish.
I am not the most religious but I am more than a match for any number of Muslim Zealots.
Dont be so quick to write of all of Europe we are not all French.
Well, if you dont have an agenda with your comment, nobody does.
If you listened to GW the other day, he stated that the US is very concerned about how this turns out and that we are going to use all forms of influence on the Afghan government to see the right outcome occurs.
This is the first real test of the new Afghan gov judiciary, to interpret their 'constitution' and deconflict their stated tolerance of religious freedom with sharia law.
You can be upset, but you have to let the process play out on this. New democracies must go through these legal 'tests'.
As during the cold war and so it is true today, to defeat the enemy we have to make deals with others who are just as dirty as those we are fighting.
When we leave Afghanistan that is if we can leave, and not be forced out, or forced to fight an endless war we will leave behind a mixture of moderate and extreme Muslims in charge, as long as they stay friendly to us and support our side or deny there territory to the enemy we will leave them do what they want to there own people.
The same will go for Iraq.
We went to Afghanistan for another reason than you disingenuously suggest, but you knew that.
That said, keep in mind that 5 years ago Mr. Rahman would have just been capped with nary a peep. Bush, imperfect though he may be, has made a difference even if you don't care to admit it.
What do those that insist that islam is a peaceful, loving religion have to say about this? They can't claim that these are radicals.
THIS is islam! Forced submission. Death and destruction to anyone who dares challenge or reject islam!
Damn. I didn't think that there was a lying, sniveling way out for them.
That's true. But the penalty for apostacy from Mohammedanism has always been death.
I appreciate that. What I dont appreciate is uneducated criticism of the likes of democrat talking points. Instead of getting all hysteric, as the leftist media would love you to do, get both sides of the story, then make your thoughts known.
You should read the latest National Security Strategy. Its got some fluff, but it will give you some historical prospective on why you should care about spreading democracy.
And this Christian converts fate has little to do with the safety of your children. It is about the Afghan people deciding between rule of law (their new constitution) or mob rule of the Mullah's. They must pass through this test of their own accord.
I'm so glad that we are doing Islamic Republic nation building. (Puke)
The Mullahcracy of Afghanistan is riding high on sharia law again in that crevice of a country.
Believing they are doing God's will by murdering believers of the One true Lord God Almighty.
With all due respect...Shouldn't they get the chance to learn the TRUTH about islam?
Do you really believe they don't have souls worth saving?
He came for a witness, that he might bear witness of the light, that all might believe through him.
John 1:7
The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:9
In the future, Christians will be stoned first, then we will hear about it later, the way it used to be in lands possessed by the Mohammedan Death Cultists.
"If you listened to GW the other day, he stated that the US is very concerned about how this turns out and that we are going to use all forms of influence on the Afghan government to see the right outcome occurs."
So we have to go to bat for the freedom of every single Believer that happens to find the Christ in Mohammedan lands?
The status quo has returned to Afghanistan. Sharia law.
We need to stop nation building and go back to more effective strategies - complete and utter devastation of wicked societies that dare to threaten us or our allies.
As stated by others earlier, if it were status quo, the man would be dead already and you would not have even heard a word about it. This is a beginning. Until it has fully played out, we should not be so self critical of what we have achieved to date. We should also continue to guard against becoming what we fight against, and advocating 'utter destruction' of whole societies that happen to include small radical elements comes pretty close to that.
Used to be? It's my understanding that Saudi Arabia makes it a crime, punishable by death, to follow Christianity. I'm also sure their death penalty procedures include stoning to death.
