GOP Would Have Booted Jesus: Hill
New York Post Online ^ | March 23, 2006 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton ratcheted up her talk about religion yesterday - saying a GOP-sponsored bill making it a felony to be in the United States illegally would have "criminalized" Jesus.

Clinton, who's considered the Democratic front-runner for the 2008 White House race, made the comments at a hastily scheduled news conference about the House-passed bill aimed at illegal immigrants.

You can read the entire bill here: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h109-4437

Sec. 274 about "assist[ing]" and "shield[ing]" aliens are the 2 biggest concerns. I am also concerned about how broadly Sec. 205 ("Mandatory sentencing ranges for persons aiding or assisting certain reentering aliens") would be applied.

What does this have to do with salvation? The subthread referred to people looking at references to aliens and foreigners with one person (raycpa) claiming that all such persons were welcomed into ancient Israel. All I'm saying is that the categories listed by this same person were those of temporary workers "a temporary inhabitant, a newcomer lacking inherited rights" and newly naturalized foreigners "of foreigners in Israel, though conceded rights" rather than some horde of people who'd just marched in.

None of this has any bearing on salvation. Are you trying to allege that because the Gospel is for all men that likewise the U.S. ought to adopt completely open borders? Probably not, so I'm going to assume that your comment is based on a misreading of the context of my post.

If you continue reading, raycpa added definitions from Bible dictionaries, and the thread has devolved into the Catholic Church should serve Holy Communion on the bus shipping these wetbacks home. If you'd rather not discuss that, fine.

Don't you remember when some boneheaded leftist dem idiot postulated that Mary and Joseph were homeless, and that's why Jesus was born in a manger? It really is mind-boggling.

Why was Jezus born in a manger?

Periodically, the people of those times had to journey to the city, in this case, I believe that it was to pay taxes, but it could have been for a religious holiday as well. The problem was that all of the "hotel rooms" were occupied.

This happens in modern times too, and it happened to me once... I couldn't get a room in Columbia, MO, a weekend that the Tigers were playing a home game. No mangers, but I did spend the night in my car.

I don't believe Jesus ever meant for Christians to be doormats. When there is a concerted POLITICAL effort to get illegal immigrants into this country, I don't believe we are bound to disrupt our way of life to accomodate them. If there are people who are in danger, that's a completely different story, but that is NOT the case with the overwhelming majority of the illegal immigrants in this country today.

Ok so as long as someone can break the law and actually get onto US soil illegally they are the "alien" and should be allowed to stay? But you also are not for open borders. If youre consistent you must have no problem with a border wall.

Individuals have the responsibility to be hospitable as they can to whomever they meet, but governments and people with authority and people under authority have other responsibilities as well.

Our government has the charge of protecting its citizens and its resources first before hospitality. It is here to do right by its citizens and punish those who do wrong.

Just as the head of a house has the charge of protect his family by preventing thieves and other undesirables from entering his house, so does the government. It has a responsibility to see that visitors arrive, stay, and depart in an orderly manner, for the good of its citizens first and for the good of the visitors second.

Romans 13
" 1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. 6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor."

Why stop there? Keep quoting verses 8-10 about how we are supposed to "love our neighbor as ourself" - and if that conflicts with one of man's laws, which do you think we are supposed to obey?

Nope. I thought your claim that Jews in Nazi Germany were illegal aliens was absurd as it was incorrect. Now George Washington was an illegal alien. Im just waiting for the Jesus as illegal claim. Keep going please, youre very entertaining.

I never said "aliens" - they were deemed "illegal" though.

So why did you bring it up if they werent illegal aliens? For the sake of bringing the word Nazi into the conversation of course. You sound like a dem.

For the sake of showing that the stroke of a pen can turn anyone from the innocent and national hero to "illegals". The reverse is true as well, e.g. Reagan's amnesty. I have never voted for a Democrat in my life.

Its not true. A stroke of a pen cannot turn an innocent into anything else. Under the law perhaps but not morally. A pen stroke amnesty for illegals does not change the fact that they had and likely have no respect for our sovereignty and immigration laws. If you think it does then you must also have no problem with Marc Rich. After all, He was pardoned.
