NEW YORK -- Invoking Biblical themes, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton joined immigration advocates Wednesday to vow and block legislation seeking to criminalize undocumented immigrants.

Clinton, a potential 2008 presidential candidate and relative latecomer to the immigration debate, made her remarks as the Senate prepares to take up the matter next week.

Clinton renewed her pledge to oppose a bill passed in December by the House that would make unlawful presence in the United States _ currently a civil offense _ a felony.

"Clinton vows to block bill criminalizing illegal immigrants

Something sounds weird about this... illegal=criminal doesn't it?"

yeah, they mean the same thing. However, the common illegal/criminal alien doesn't realize that and they will be VOTING for her...

"I would never vote for Hillary Clinton - she is right about this bill however."

With all due respect, Hillary is wrong and so are you.

Currently considered a "civil offense" to enter the country without legal authority, it's a "felony" to break into and enter someone's home, isn't it?

Same thing.

The provision that is giving me (and the Catholic Church) more concern is about "assist[ing]" illegal aliens once they are here - would that include giving them Holy Communion? Would that include typing on FR that Costa Mesa city council should not pass certain legislation?

Have you forgotten "Render onto Caesars's the things which are Caesar's..."?

Aiding and abetting those who knowingly break the law is not right -- neither is breaking the law in the first place.

So, does that mean Holy Communion is illegal, or not?

No - I've answered every one your questions - now can you answer mine?

You haven't answered "every one" of my questions, but nonetheless -- "Holy Communion is not illegal" by sinning law breakers -- especially not in Mexico.

I agree - but in actual practice, illegals do. They say if you threw out the illegal vote in California, Republicans would own the state.

I'm confused now - which "illegals" are we talking about? The ones who were illegal but Reagan granted amnesty and now are U.S. citizens? As long as you are excluding those in your definition of "illegals", I think a higher priority than spending $8 billion on wall at the border is to make sure only U.S. citizens vote, once, and all votes are counted.

Immigration and Nationality Act as part of 8 USC 1325, "Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers ... shall ... be fined under title 18, United States Code, or imprisoned..."

18 USC is our criminal code. Everything it it applies to criminal offences. Thus if it applies to a person's case, he is by definition a criminal.

She also called for new enforcement laws, including penalties for employers who exploit illegal immigrants, as well as a system to allow the roughly 11 million illegal immigrants currently living in the United States to earn their citizenship.

So we put 11 million people who broke the law and entered our country illegal ahead of all the people that are waiting in line to enter legally. How many of these people will realize, once they are legal citizens, what most of our other poor citizens have realized - it's easier to sit on your butt, have babies and draw welfare than get out in the field and work for a living?

I just kinda liked the symbolism of linking Bubba to HAZMAT, although I will admit that I did not recognize the name Ahaz.

Have a good day.
