THE Bush White House lost its credibility on the Iraq war before the first shot was fired.
The rush to war was prompted by what proved to be false pretext: That Saddam Hussein's regime was armed with weapons of mass destruction. War fervor was further fueled by the administration's attempt to link, by implication, Hussein with al Qaeda and the 9/11 attacks. Vice President Dick Cheney had openly scoffed at the suggestion that the U.S. engagement would be either long or arduous. Democracy would then quickly blossom in the Middle East, as Arab nations rushed to emulate the Iraq model, the administration promised.
This week, as the third anniversary of the U.S. invasion brings an intensified focus on the cost of the war, in dollars and lives, the White House is trying to recapture the public's confidence in its handling of the war.

The retarded rantings of sheeple.
HA!
"Democracy would then quickly blossom in the Middle East, as Arab nations rushed to emulate the Iraq model, the administration promised."
Flat out, bald faced lie.
LOL First thing I looked at was the source.
SF Chronical makes the Oregonian look conservative.
Rush to war! lol
And yet I believe that a search of their own archives from that late Clinton years until Bush was inaugerated will show that they believed the same thing.
What else would you expect from the San Francisco Commiecle?
Dude, where's the "BARF ALERT"?
I smell something Vichy.
This is the standard left-wing lie.
The truth is that the Bush Administration linked Iraq to the 1993 WTC bombing via the *conviction* in U.S. courts of Iraqi intel agent Ramsi Yusef.
By deliberately conflating the 1993 WTC bombing with the 9/11/2001 jet-ramming, the left-wing thinks that they can convince the Public that President Bush lied...as if he somehow claimed that Saddam had planes ram into the WTC towers on 9/11.
That wasn't the Bush Administration's claim. Instead of 9/11/2001, the Bush Administration noted that there were some connections between Iraq and the 1993 WTC bombing.
False statement. The administration's reasoning was that we could not afford to wait until Saddam acheived his goal of having (nuclear) WMDs. We knew he has already used chemical weapons on the Kurds, so the issue of whether he had those WMDs was settled historically.
...what increasingly appears to be a quagmire.
And you posted this because.....?
To get an idea of what opinions are out there so we can refute them?
Cliche Alert, Cliche Alert. The editor's writing is dreadful and cliche-ridden.
