No, they claimed fluoride was a form of mind control, making people docile.

"The high levels of fluoride that occur naturally in some drinking water can cause tooth and bone damage and should be reduced, the National Research Council said Wednesday."
Seems mankind is once again saying God you did it wrong. Not that what naturally occurs is now bad for us and we need to clean up nature.

But today, war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Say what you will, but I predict a study within the next five years that reports that we need more arsenic in our drinking water.

Hardly news as the effects of high naturally occuring flouride in drinking water has long been known. Too much fluoride actually causes tooth problems in the form of banding and yellow staining .. a few places out here on the tundra have this problem with their water and you can often tell where someone lived just by looking at their teeth.
There are also a few places with high level of lithium in their water ...now that tends to make people docile. Lithium carbonate is an effective treatment for certain kinds of mental illnesses like manic depression.

The problem of
Dental fluorosis has been well known for decades.
"The disease is more prevalent in rural areas where drinking water is derived from shallow wells or hand pumps. The disease is also more likely to occur in areas where the drinking water has a fluoride content of more than 1ppm (part per million), and in children who have a poor intake of calcium."

Drinking too much tea can cause the same condition.
