WHITE HOUSE Authorities are investigating a suspicious package at the northwest gate of the White House.

T-V images from the scene show uniformed officers shooing people away from the area.

President Bush isn't there -- he's in West Virginia today for a speech on Iraq.

White House alert on suspicious package

Agence France-Presse

Washington, March 22, 2006

A security alert was sounded at the White House on Wednesday after a suspicious package was found at a gate to the presidential residence.

President George W Bush was not at the White House, having left for West Virginia state to give a speech on Iraq.

The journalists working inside the White House were told not to go outside.

But US television channels showed images of a bomb-detecting robot moving toward the package outside the northern wall.

WASHINGTON, (AP) --

The Secret Service on Wednesday investigated a suspicious package left near a gate on the Pennsylvania Avenue side of the White House.

The package was noticed just after President Bush left in his helicopter from the South Lawn — on the opposite side of the White House — for a trip to Wheeling, W.Va.

A remote-controlled device was used to probe the package left at a fence that runs along the north side of the White House grounds. "Normal security protocols are in place," Secret Service spokesman Tom Mazur said.

The Secret Service secured the White House and raised its internal alert system by one level during the investigation, a Homeland Security official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the review was ongoing.

Reporters, cameramen and photographers were told to remain inside the briefing room while officers investigated.

Yeh, well, we know why: Today is March 22. March is the 3rd month = 3. 22 is twice 11. 3+11 When was the Madrid attack? 311 When was the London attack? July 7. July is the 7th month. 7 + 7. Turn them upside down and they resemble 1 + 1. Or 11. The London attack was the 3rd major attack. Thus 3 + 11 or 311. Scary, huh!

Wow! I just took the first number from your post number of 154. That's "1" and the first letter of each word in your screen name TomGuy. Each letter "T" and "G" are exactly seven letters in from either side of the alphabet. If you turn the sevens upside down so they look like ones and add it to the "1" from the post number, you get "111"

You are in on the plot, aren't you TomGuy? Or should I call you "Mr. 111?" ;-)

Is that the flu you get from drinking French bottled water?

I spelled it that way intentionally. You've noticed, I'm sure, the tendency of the elite media talking heads to pronounce place names etc. in a way unfamiliar to Americans, to appear more in-the-know and worldly. "Neeejair" for Niger, and "Cutter" for Qatar are two examples that leap quickly to mind. Well, I've noticed an alarming tendency for the mediots to call the bird flu "Avian" flu, which is correct, but to give it a long A which makes it come out with the same sound as "Evian". So I decided to just go ahead and spell it that way.

After busting all the windows and removing the item with a robot, they used compressed water to 'explode' the item.

ummm, you can't compress water. Pressurized, maybe?

Best to respond to all mysterious packages.

Dry runs require non-threatening approaches to test the waters. Not every "false alarm" is a dry run but then again "false alarms" should not be safe from inquiry.
