Arab and US officials are growing nervous at the prospect of a second congressional uprising against the acquisition of American assets by a Middle Eastern-controlled company in the wake of the Dubai Ports World debacle.

If Dubai tomorrow decided to send 10,000 troops to Iraq, all this would go away. But as with the rest of the muslim world, they are AWOL in the troops-on-the-ground department.

"there are plenty of US assets for the UAE to buy that does not involve critical infrastructure or defense related companies"

Yeah, since they're only interested in making a profit, why not something that's not "defense related"?

Check my response to the Duncan Hunter issue at #103.

He did that knowing full well that many conscientious conservatives had already asked what he was going to do about the Chi-cons.

15 points. Bush's approval rating amongst republicans (the people that count to him) went from 90% to 75%, just over that one issue. ugly.

Don't tell me. Tell sinkspur and those others in this thread, who want to stay in denial, blame the GOP in Congress and the American people for their reaction to the Dubai issue, instead of the idiots in the White House, who caused the ruckus with their ham-fisted, arrogant mismanagement of it.

How can Dubya stand up to the Saudis with a broke back? His problems are mountin'.

A "newsie" asked a question ~ he'd been planted by Schumer and the Mob ~ and "W" gave an answer.

Remember, this whole thing was a Schumer/Mob conspiracy.

No, the group that will be making this decision is the American public, through their elected representatives.

I trust Congress-as unreliable as Congress has been, and as derelict as it has been in asserting its powers for the past decade-much more than I trust unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats that belong to a parallel, extraconstitutional administrative bureaucracy that's nominally within the executive branch.

If we feel that our interests are not being served we have ways to redress our grievances.

Everyone has access to his or her congressman or senators, and can contact their offices ad libitum.

Who do we complain to when strategic assets are being auctioned off to foreign powers?

What is the phone number or e-mail address of the person who approved of the DP World-P&O transaction?

What is his or her name?

Why would they do that? They can't eat the oil.

Why would they launch an oil embargo in 1973, doubling the price of oil and triggering a deep worldwide recession in 1974?

Did they eat it then? Where do you people come up with this stuff? Do you live in a dreamworld? Who are you? You seem to have no conception of reality whatsoever!

>>>>We look silly, and the Arabs would be entirely justified in calling in all the debt they hold.

And you sound stupid, not to mention hysterical. You've shown yourself to be a cheap propagandist for the Islamic world.

America's men and women are fighting and dying in Iraq to try and bring some stability and peace in a extremely dangerous part of the world. According to PresBush this is being done to fight terrorism, and to spread freedom and democracy throughout the Islamic world. The US military is also protecting the sheikdoms of the UAE from terrorist attacks.

How many combat troops does the UAE have in Iraq today?

I'll tell you. None. Zero. Zippo. Zilch.

The UAE needs the US more then we need the UAE.

Leadership isn't blaming the dirty-tricksters for attacking you. It is deftly reacting to the attack and turning it to your advantage. Instead of circling the wagons and then threatening a veto, Bush could have opened up the process from day one, and educated the American people on the UAE and DP Ports World, and the reality of international ownership of ports and everything else. He didn't do this. He failed to lead. He left his own party with no choice but to abandon ship as he hemorraged 15 pts in the polls.

not wanting to piss off every Arab country in the world.

What?
Screw that mindset.

We are at WAR. The President of the United States
- should be acting in a way that makes every Arab country in the world afraid to piss US off!

Tell the Muslim Countries that if they want to maintain good trade relations with US, then we had better see 20 brigades of ground pounding muslim troops joining the Coalition YESTERDAY or else we will let the Muslim nutcases around the world loose on them and count the days it takes for all their governments to blow up.

Mobilize this Country and Win the War!

"I sure wish Congress would worry a little more about the 20 million or so illegal aliens in the US that we know nothing about."
You are right on the money. Why worry about the ports when thousands are just walking into our country daily. It is beyond any amount of common sense why this is allowed to happen.

"They just don't blame all Arabs for 9/11 as the ignoramuses do."

More race-baiting? LOL! You're no longer just headed for the rocks, you're upon them, and your ship is sinking. Hope you've got a life-jacket.

UAE links to Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations have been well-documented both pre and post 9/11, to the point of demonstrating complicity on the part of their government. Not only that, but they're big fat crybaby hypocrites!!!

They've banned all Somalis from entering their country following a simple boat-hijacking by a small number of 'radical' Somalis. That attack did far less damage to the UAE than 9/11 did to the US.

They're unwilling to live by the standards they would set for us! Oh, and BTW, last time I checked we are still a sovereign nation, and have every right and duty to pick-and-choose who we allow commercial privilege within our borders.

Some of us knew about it.

Keep your eye on Long Beach. It's a staging ground for the New World Order. When Bill Clinton says he and China share a vision for one big happy planet, this is what he is talking about.

The high-level fix appears to be in to base the China Overseas Shipping Co., a Chinese military front, in Long Beach, Calif.

Last week, Judge Peter Lichtman cleared a Los Angeles County courtroom of all spectators before issuing a ruling favorable to Washington's headlong desire to hand over the strategic former naval base to the Chinese People's Liberation Army. Thus, the long march to Long Beach continues.

Now that can be addressed (and likely will be).

You want Congress to kick the Chinese out of the ports?

What a safe and secure country we'll have when all the strategic businesses are owned by WASPS.

The Patsies will be in heaven.

Since NONE of our ports are internationally owned, I'm not sure what you are talking about. Are you sure?

Oliver North was among talk-show hosts criticizing the senators yesterday.
. . . . "I am greatly surprised that Jim Inhofe, who is usually a stalwart defender of U.S. security, has agreed to support this ill-advised venture," he said. "I urge both senators [Inhofe and Robb] to take another close look at the dangers inherent in allowing the communist Chinese government to control a significant portion of a major U.S. port, and I call on them to join their colleagues in the House to block this foolhardy venture."
. . . . Mr. Inhofe issued a statement yesterday, saying: "I am absolutely opposed to the Cosco deal in Long Beach. This is a national security issue of major importance. But I want the legislative language dealing with this to be tightly drawn to target Cosco specifically by name."
. . . . California's two Democratic senators, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein, oppose any effort to block Cosco. The White House also endorsed the Cosco lease arrangement.
. . . . Both Mr. Inhofe and Mr. Hunter explained their stands on talk-radio shows.
. . . . "My message is, I talked to Jim, and Chairman Inhofe is on board on this thing, and everybody needs to call up [Virginia Democratic Sen. Charles S.] Robb's office and let him know where they stand," Mr. Hunter said in an interview.
. . . . "It ought to strike a chord with liberals," he said. "This was a company caught red-handed smuggling 2,000 guns for street gangs in California. That ought to make liberals in American outraged."
