OCALA, Fla. -- A Florida judge said a plea deal for a Tampa teacher accused of having sex with a 14-year-old would "erode public confidence in" schools.
Marion County Circuit Judge Hale Stencil has rejected the plea deal for Debra Lafave, 25. The judge said the deal would undermine the credibility of the criminal justice system.
Prosecutors and the defense lawyer had urged the judge to accept the deal for the good of the boy. A psychiatrist told the judge the boy suffered extreme anxiety because of intense media coverage of the case and does not want to testify.
Lafave was charged in two counties where she's accused of having sex with the student.
A judge in Hillsborough County accepted a plea deal there in November and sentenced Lafave to three years of house arrest and seven years' probation. She pleaded guilty in November to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery for having sex with the boy in a classroom and her home.
lame joke...
WESH TV is reporting just that. Prosecutors promised the mother of the victim in this case that the boy would not have to testify. But because Marion County Judge Hale Stancil rejected this second plea deal, the only other option for prosecutors would be a trial, which would force the boy to testify.

AAAaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
We used to have a saying back when I was in the military. This young lady would have been called, simply, "LUNCH"!
A criminal has an absolute right under the Constitution to face the accuser and to call the accuser as a witness in trial. The fact that he is 14 cause the judge to empty the courtroom, but there is no way to prosecute the case without having the boy available to testify.
Because she is certifiably NUTZ!
The problem i have with this is the 'trauma' suffered.
A girl will regret such an affair the rest of her life.
This boy will remember his liason with this teacher fondly.
He has not been 'victimized' in any sense of the word.
No I'm suggesting that who knows what type of disease(s) she has mentally or physically. That's why I believe it's wrong for her to take advantage of a horny teen who's probably not going to take the precautions an adult would. One night of pleasure in the backseat of a car is not worth this kids life. Pretty folks get AIDS too. How is that not adult thinking?
She's a cute-eee!
Not necessarily just stop using such absurd rhetoric. This is a case which should be pled and forgotten.
try explaining that to most of the people here, that was my original point - You can't blame the young man for doing this.
"With a crazy loon as the mother? Pay child support??"
What judge is going to order a 14 year old boy to pay child support? and as far as the crazy loon mother. That just makes it easier to get custody. I love kids. The more the merrier. ;o)
To quote Master Yoda:
"Hit it I would."
Reformed whores have more integrity than judges in this RAT cesspool (Cook County). Quacks and crooks florish here like weeds.
There's a big difference between "wanting to" and "doing." If she's immature enough to fantasize about some good looking boy, fine, but whatever happened to self control?
...tell us how, when they were (or will be) 14, you will call them aside and somberly instruct them, "Son, if a drop-dead gorgeous married woman ever hits on you, here is what you should do..." ??
If they are a Christian, then they certainly have. Helping someone commit adultery is just as wrong as committing it.
Ummm, well... After I posted it I thought I could have worded it better.
Look at this thread and you see where self control has gone.
yup, coming through on FNC now - case dropped.
this plea was fair, it sent some message at least about this conduct.
