Exactly right! The whole culture is mentally disordered.
Imagine ANY human, outside of the ME and Islam, doing this to themselves on a city street. Imagine your next door neighbor doing this. Would they not be put under psychiatric care? Would they not be considered self-abusive and mentally ill?
These are people the naive among us think can fit into a civilized culture?

Furthermore, Christianity has produced these sort of sadomasochist behavior since its inception. IIRC, when I read the Founding Fathers, some of them went into tirades against Christians who would whipped themselves into severe bleeding and skin damage.
In other words, the tendency to inflict self-punishment seems to run universally among all ethnic groups.
I have never understood why women date men who beat the crap out of them, but I've known a few women who like to date (and even marry) violent men.
If they accepted Christ they could do away with all this bleeding. He already did that on the cross for them.
The Christian Flagellants did it in the streets from ~1259 to the late 14th Century. No one considered them mentally ill (but the Catholic Church didn't like the way they implied flagellation as penance could replace the need for confession at the Church, so they condemned Christian Flagellants specifically as heretics. Flagellation is not a heresy).
Hundreds of thousands of people are self-flagellating during Lent all across Europe. Many Filipino Christians self-flagellate all year long and will be practicing self-crucifixion at the end of Lent.
To pretend this is a strictly Muslim phenomenon is ignorant.

And the 'religious ritual' excuse doesn't work either. Mayans had a 'ritual' that involved disemboweling people and tossing them down pyramids. Many primitive religions had barbaric torture and sacrifice as some religious ritual. That was the past. Islam is that barbaric, death-oriented, and brutal NOW. That's the problem.
Would we excuse disembowelment and torture if it is a 'religious ritual', and call it normal?
Mayans wouldn't fit in current society. Cannibals wouldn't make it among civilized people, no matter how 'religious' they claim their practices are.
Self-abuse is not normal, ritualized or not. It is called masochism. Islam is both masochistic and sadistic. Most of humanity has progressed beyond the dark ages in which these people enjoy being mired.
This behavior is perfectly normal for a culture of fourth century barbarians.
