This would shut down all the landscaping & construction companies here in florida.

Somehow, I think Florida would survive.

I thought when they passed the 1934 gun law that spelled the end of the wise guys, but then Las Vegas was discovered, drugs became illegal, and the whole thing started up again.

I'm for a real fence. How hard can that be? Put a border agent every half mile on the border. I understand that's 16,000 border agents (three shifts).

Right. And let's have virtual fences to divide property lines, and virtual grates on stores, and virtual glass between bank tellers and patrons. And since he's the head of homeland security, how about virtual barriers at airports and virtual metal detectors and virtual cockpit doors. Lets all be one big happy open world. Get a clue, Chertoff.

And as far as what he said about real fences not working, talk to Israel and China. And does the name Wall Street ring a bell?? It got it's name from the wall/fence that the dutch put up to keep out the indians. We should just call it Virtual Street!

And how is that going to keep drug smugglers and MS-13 out?

Good point. I stand corrected.

We must implement the measures I described and build a security fence, complete with armed guards, on our southern and northern borders.

And here you can find the up-to-date thinking of the Dynasty in China which built the Great Wall to keep out Ghengis Khan. It was a huge public works project that involved real, manual labor. You will not find support for 21st century technological solutions, though occasionally you might find some sentimentality for high tech workers being outsourced to India. Luddites do not appreciate the deterrance of predator drones on the border, and sentimentally denounce any suggestion that we shoot invaders. We have magic thinking instead. Just seal the borders. Get out that Seal-o-matic you ordered from TV and seal away!

Nope, there is chain link and barbed wire a long way off. Patrolled, too, by the look of the trail on the other side.

The gun law of '34 didn't phase the wiseguys who were still around. All it did was make it illegal to shoot rats in the barn without startling the horses. (suppressors, too, not just full auto).

To go along with our virtual Republican majority in congress.

So then that means that our 13M illegals are only virtually here? That the drain on state & local government is only virtual ? And that the crime/deaths they perpetrate are only virtual crimes... virtual murders ?!

Hey Chertoff... go virtually fu_k yourself!

And part of the virtual fence will be a Predator, and all the bad guys have to do is wait until the weather is bad to avoid it. Furthermore, the next time there is a call to cut expenses or when big business wants more free labor the virtual fence will disappear.

"organized crime is just a shadow of what it was."

WTF? Has Chertof never been in LA, NY, Chicago? Gang infestation in urban, suburban and increasingly in rural areas is organized crime. What a dunderbutthead.

The head of the Department of Homeland Security thinks the government can be as successful against illegal immigration as it has been with organized crime."

"Transnational organized crime will be one of the major problems facing policy makers in the 21st century. It will be a defining issue of the 21st century as the Cold War was for the 20th century and Colonialism was for the 19th. No area of international affairs will remain untouched as political and economic systems and the social fabric of many countries will deteriorate under the increasing financial power of international organized crime groups." -Louise Shelley, Director of TraCCC.

All we need to do is eliminate their incentive, viz., shut down businesses that employ illegals, including Harry Homeowner who might just hire one or two to build his deck.

That, and eliminating all social services would do the trick.

100% correct.

Heck, the illegals won't have to wait for bad weather. The link below is a little something I wrote about the UAV testing they did in Arizona. It was a failure.

The $15 million dollar border failure

I realize it might not be cost effective to fence from the Gulf to the Pacific, and I will go along with the House Bill which calls for 700 miles of twin 15 foot fence with sensors. However, I can see the hand writing on the wall, and the fight against the fence is simply because they want illegal immigration to continue.

I've read your little essay on UAVs and like most people with any common sense, I wonder why you didn't compare the UAV to manned aircraft?

They should remove the fence around the White House and put in a virtual one.
Chertoff should also have a virtual job.
