Anyone who can defend murder of this sort is a scumbag. Plain and simple. So the kid was a punk, and walked across his lawn-- but a shotgun to the chest??>>>>>>>>

There likely is a lot more to this story, and the kid and the parents probably enjoyed setting their neighbor off and harassing him. Obviously the parents and kid thought there would be no consequences , not realizing that their neigbor was crazy. The parents could have prevented this, and now their son is gone.

The parents in this story are likely idiots whose son could do no wrong, and assumed their neigbor was not a crazy shooter, they were wrong.

Lesson: Do not bother or willfully harass your neighbors and if you do , even by mistake, AVOID all future contact as much as possible. Your neighbor could be a shooter so treat him/her with politeness and respect, THE WAY YOU ARE SUPPOSED TOO.

I always like to keep an old knife handy. Whenever I shoot a kid I put the knife in his hand. No one's walked on my lawn since '98.

Simple lesson here:

Don't deliberately provoke people you know are crazy.

There are LOTS of people out there who are just a
tweak away from murder. And you don't always know who
they are.

Be careful, out there....

A sane voice in the wilderness. Our nation has completely lost it. It starts with this man thinking his immaculately kept lawn was more important than finding a solution to this conflict (i.e. move, police, courts, fence, etc.) and the parents and that boy thinking they could do whatever they wanted whenever they wanted to. Moral depravity gone wild. We're ripe for some more interesting events.

Thank you. You saved me writing all that I wanted to say. I can see how it could have happened, though the shooting isn't justified. But the neighbors who harassed this unstable man are implicated in the boy's death. They are not innocent.

When I lived in Rome, NY there was a similar incident. An old man who was a retired cop was being tormented by some of the neighbors' kids. Finally one of them took a knife and cut his garden hose in half. That was when he snapped. IIRC he shot and killed two of them.

The kid was just questioning authority--like his parents taught him.

After all, the man did give warnings for five yrs. to the same family. Gotta be careful which buttons you're willing to push these days.

Excellent post. You never really know your neighbors and I bet there is a lot more to this story.

A better lesson is to be friends with your neighbor as much as possible. Get to know them on a personal basis.
If you DO inadvertently bother your neighbor, apologize.
Don't let some petty peeve between you make for bad neighbors.

I know, there are neighbors that you just can't do this with but they are few and far between.

Thank you. I just came across this thread and although the murder was not justified, I could tell there was more to the story than what was printed in the article.

You saved me the time it would have taken to formulate my own post, so I will just say I agree with you.

What you said - - BUMP!
I have taught my boys from toddlerhood to never, ever be a bully.
Here is yet another case of the bully finally messing with the wrong psychopath.

I can't defend the guy for shooting this kid.. not at all..

but I do wonder if people would react the same if this kid ahd been harassing the man by slitting tires and smashing windows in the old man's corvette....

It is HIS lawn... If he takes the time and spends the money to make it just so.. no one has the right to come along and muck it up just for the enjoyment of angering the owner...

my thoughts.. the man has gone nuts....he is dnagerous and keep him locked up...

but I am also glad that this 15 yr old never grew up and married my daughter.. or else I might be the one doing time...
