Bush warns Iran on Israel

US President George W. Bush said he hoped to resolve the nuclear dispute with Iran with diplomacy, but warned Tehran he would "use military might" if necessary to defend Israel.

"The threat from Iran is, of course, their stated objective to destroy our strong ally Israel. That's a threat, a serious threat. It's a threat to world peace," the US president said after a speech defending the war in Iraq.

"I made it clear, and I'll make it clear again, that we will use military might to protect our ally Israel," said Bush, who was apparently referring to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's call for the destruction of Israel.

On the atomic dispute, Bush said he hoped "to solve this issue diplomatically" with a "united message" to Tehran from Washington, London, Paris, Berlin as well as Russia "hopefully" and China.

The message would be that "your desire to having a nuclear weapon is unacceptable," he said.

Bush also touched on Iran's agreement to discuss Iraq with the United States, saying that "it's very important, however, for the Iranians to understand that the discussion is limited to Iraq.

"We're using this as an opportunity to make it clear about our concerns of interference within a democratic process that is evolving," he said, saying that the talks will not decide Iran's relations with a sovereign Iraq.

"Ultimately, Iraq-Iranian relations will be negotiated between the Iraqi government and the Iranian government," he said.

Sounds like George is enrgizing his base for this fall's elections. He gives away land to the palestinians on one hand then promises to defend Israel on the other. Either way Israel will be betrayed for oil.

The Bible has a special curse for those who barter away Israel's land as America has done. And all of it is done in the name of world peace, I guess that makes it OK.

I have real money that says when push comes to shove the world will abandon the apple of God's eye. Including the U.S.

May God forgive us...

Re post 20. Great words from a great man. Unfortunatly, although they were applicable to the 18th century, George Washington did not address a time when a fanatic in central Asia can set in motion events that kill 3000 Americans in New York City.

These are very perilous times. If Iran gets an atomic bomb, don't think for a second they couldn't figure out a way to deliver it to an American city, or very close to one. President Bush is facing problems Washington never dreamed of.

Israel can't do it without our approval.

They would if it was an imminent nuclear threat they were facing.....perhaps it is getting close. I don't think the President is mincing words.

no doubt but we are not dealing with rational people here. Their misplaced "bravado" is going to get their butts kicked in spades. These people never learn, going back to Libya in 1986. The step up to the plate only to get struck out in straight pitches with breaking balls.

Why were we fighting the Nazis when they didn't attack us? Didn't they declare war on us a few days after Pearl Harbor?

To me the solution is simple. Recently we heard a Muslim is facing the death penalty by the Muslims for converting to Christianity. Therefore, we get the Gideon followers to infiltrate Iran and drop a bible in every Iranian household. Any questions?

You're still funny. Stalingrad was possible BECAUSE we had entered the fight to stop Germany and had by then supplied the Russians with material..Hitler had an ORDER of importance with his targets and the EASTERN ones were easier to begin with...THe WESTERN ones were next..

I was watching meet the press yesterday and when John Murtha was asked by Tim Russert If the iranians do not back down on thier nucluar ambitions would President Bush Have to go to congress for permission to bomb them in the stone age and that is when Murtha's started to have a conniption fit and his blood pressure was going up.

He was ranting and raving about how Iran was eight times bigger than iraq and President Bush did not have any military option.

It is really nausating that Murtha is former marine and That interview should been labeled with a (BARF ALERT) warning.

Typical lightweight democrap.

My personal take on all of this if especially the United States and Great britain was serious about iran not having nukes both countries would have to put up or shutup and put their money where their mouths are and excercise the military option.

Forget About the united nations.

It is sad that politicians of both political parties and the people in the diplomatic corps will stumble and bumble into a conflict that will last for years.

If people could not see this especially politicians then surely they are blind.

They are all due for a rude awakening.

ALL OUT WAR WILL BREAK OUT IN THE MIDDLE EAST ANYWAY..........

OK, yes BUT without OUR entering the fight the Germany would simply have drawn back a few hundred miles, licked their wounds and then proeede to quickly build an arsenal of weapons like the world had never seen..and then the nitro would have REALLY hit the fan....And weak America would have been easy pickins indeed....The idea that after Stalingrad the Germans would have been finihed without OUR entering the war is flawed.

the germans were always in a race against time vs. the soviets, and with the bad luck (unusually severe winters in the 1941-1943 for example) that struck them would have eventually lost even if we had never entered the war.

the real turning point was when the nazis failed to capture moscow - it was downhill from there. almost a YEAR before DDay, the soviet troops had rolled back almost all german advances in the east: in the balkans the red army had retaken bulgaria and romania (ploesti).

the illusion that the USSR would have lost without US help is just that: an illusion. US aid kept Russian *civilians* from STARVING, but it did not keep the USSR from producing huge quantities of T34 tanks from their factories in the Urals and Siberia, which like US factories, were never bombed.

"You mean foreign entanglements like fighting the Nazi's? They didn't attack us"

Yes they did by declaring war in 1941.

Amen

Washington had his share of opposition, betrayal and treason to deal with as well.

Mr. President, Jericho missles would turn Iran into a burning radioactive cinder before we even had a chance--but he knows that--good public statement...

An ally is not the same thing as a state. France is not the 51st State and we came to its rescue. We can certainly rescue Israel. So climb out of the 18th century and get into the game.
