Carjacker beaten with his own mallet
San Diego Union ^ | March 20, 2006 | UNION-TRIBUNE

A 34-year-old San Diego man put the hammer down on crime last night.

Just before 8 p.m., the man got into his car on National Avenue near 35th Street and would have been on his way except another man in his 20s tried to carjack him, attempting to pull the victim out of the driver's seat, according to San Diego police.

The victim refused to budge, so the carjacker started beating him with a rubber mallet, police said.

“But the victim takes the rubber mallet from the bad guy and starts beating him with it,” said Sgt. Bob Dare. “The bad guy runs away. It looks like he's pretty hurt.”

And empty-handed.

Dare said the thief left without a car or his mallet.

Reminds me of the days when my brother and I were children and we pretended we were playing "Donkey Kong" and would smack each other with the rubber mallet we took from my grandfather's tool bench.

If the carjacker is caught, I predict he'll get off. The defense? Absence of mallets.

No way. The prosecution will counter with mallets aforethought.

I heard the carjacker was hit in the ear with his own mallet. In addition to absence of mallets, his defense lawyer will claim this was an unfair lobe blow.

The carjacker might get off, but if there is any justice in the world, his attorney would be taken out and shot.

Based on the facts in evidence that would be the logical conclusion, Captain.

So, you are saying that after attacking with a hammer he'll beat the rap?
