Chavez deliberately and daily cements his affinity to the left (hard and the useful idiots) and the media in the U. S. and elsewhere.

They will see - are seeing - that he is one of them; and they will, correspondingly, work to defend him. When he uses English, he speaks directly to them.

All this removes focus and attention from the repression he has brought about in Venezuela.
