In Secret Unit's 'Black Room,' a Grim Portrait of U.S. Abuse
NY Times ^ | Eric Schmitt & Carolyn Marshall

Posted on 03/19/2006 11:14:50 AM PST by Crackingham

As the Iraqi insurgency intensified in early 2004, an elite Special Operations forces unit converted one of Saddam Hussein's former military bases near Baghdad into a top-secret detention center. There, American soldiers made one of the former Iraqi government's torture chambers into their own interrogation cell. They named it the Black Room.

In the windowless, jet-black garage-size room, some soldiers beat prisoners with rifle butts, yelled and spit in their faces and, in a nearby area, used detainees for target practice in a game of jailer paintball. Their intention was to extract information to help hunt down Iraq's most-wanted terrorist, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, according to Defense Department personnel who served with the unit or were briefed on its operations.

.......

The story of detainee abuse in Iraq is a familiar one. But the following account of Task Force 6-26, based on documents and interviews with more than a dozen people, offers the first detailed description of how the military's most highly trained counterterrorism unit committed serious abuses.

It adds to the picture of harsh interrogation practices at American military prisons in Afghanistan and Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, as well as at secret Central Intelligence Agency detention centers around the world.

The new account reveals the extent to which the unit members mistreated prisoners months before and after the photographs of abuse from Abu Ghraib were made public in April 2004, and it helps belie the original Pentagon assertions that abuse was confined to a small number of rogue reservists at Abu Ghraib.

The abuses at Camp Nama continued despite warnings beginning in August 2003 from an Army investigator and American intelligence and law enforcement officials in Iraq. The C.I.A. was concerned enough to bar its personnel from Camp Nama that August.

Well, it seems as though the NY Times has been retracting a great many stories lately. Not on the front page, mind you.

Actually, they will soon be adding an entire new section to the paper. It will be called, "Retractions," and will most likely be several pages in length.

The left will use this as justification for more gays in the military. They would NEVER decorate a room like that.

Creem just had a reunion concert in London,

They played a few dates at Madison Square Garden a few months ago. My 18 y/o son got tickets (thanks, dad) and is now the envy of all my friends (and myself).

In Secret Unit's 'Black Room,' a Grim Portrait of U.S. Abuse

If I had a killer in my community coming at me intent on killing me, I would dispatch him as quickly as I could by any means possible to me.
Nobody better start quoting "rules of anything" at that point.

I feel the same way about war. If it is not all out kill the enemy as fast and by any means possible, I want no part of it.
So it's not surprising I can't even read crap like this. Handwringing is for prey, not humans.

Thank you for that link!
I just wish more video would be made downloadable.

The number of very useful videos which are made purposely difficult to download to one's hard drive is puzzling.
Why limit the wide dissemination of useful counter-propaganda?

Did the Black Room have a Green Door?

Midnight
one more night without sleepin' -
Watchin'
till the morning comes creepin'.
Green door
what's that secret you're keepin'?
There's an old piano and they play it hot behind the green door
Don't know what they're doin'
But they laugh a lot behind the green door.
Wish they'd let me in
So I could find out what's behind the green door.
Knocked once
tried to tell 'em I'd been there

Door slammed
hospitality's thin there.
Wonder just what's goin' on in there.
Saw an eyeball peepin' through a smokey cloud
Behind the green door

When I said
Joe sent me

Someone laughed out loud behind the green door.
AII I want to do is join the happy crowd behind the green door.
Midnight
one more night without sleepin' - . . .
Saw an eyeball peepin' through a smokey cloud . . .
Wish they'd let me in
So I could find out what's behind the green door.

The presstitutes at the old grey whore have their own "black room" where they conspire with their DNC masters to undermine this country.

I know so many liberals who wallow (best word I could come up with) in pleasure with every new problem in Iraq. They truly want America to lose in Iraq just so they can throw it in Bush's face.

They simply have no idea, no way to conceive, what happens if all their leaks and their backstabbings really do result in catastrophe.

Oh yeah they do...

Work of the communists in Phnom Penh, Cambodia; victims, with the South Vietnamese and Laotians, of backstabbing and betrayal by Western leftists:

They just don't care is all. If millions of little yellow people, or little brown people, have to be butchered or enslaved, that's not too high a price to be paid (by others) in achieving their goal of chastening and humiliating the United States, and thwarting the U.S. and liberal Western aims generally.

Of course you're probably correct in suggesting that they're unable to contemplate their own destruction. It's nearly reflexive with pampered and protected Western leftists to assume that someone else will always pay the price. After all someone else always has. So far.

They could have required that they read the NY Times, but that would have been cruel and inhuman punishment.
