Perhaps, but six rounds before an agonizingly slow reload (even with a speed loader) just isn't enough.
Especially when there are better alternatives - it's not 1835 any more, why should you use a weapon from that era? Here's a couple favorites:

These are corrections officers ... the simplicity of a revolver is probably the most important procurement spec ... that and six rounds is probably all you want a convict to have once they gain posession of the firearm. just kidding

As Slim and the others I pinged know the 1911A1 and the BHP / P35 are favorites but I rely on S&W Wheel guns just as much. I have a few S&W revolvers to include c couple of original and reproduction number 3's.
This is the first time I have heard of such barrels falling off or breaking.....wow ! Did this puppy flame cut it's self to death er something ? Crazy !!
About 5,000 round of CCI Blazer 200gr GDHP's through my 329PD with zero malfunctions etc etc ....I love the SW revolvers, but wouldn't own one of their autos unless it was like my Theodore Paris ASP 39 which IMHO was equal to starting out with a lug nut from a dodge neon and making a viper.
S&W does a lot of Kimber castings.....are they reporting any failures, metallurgy issues ??
Stay safe ya'll !

Your 1911 is closer to 1835 than it is to 2006.
