Sounds like France could be closer to a civil war than Iraq.

You think that if Muslims rioted in our streets, they would be appeased?

I don't think your 'parallel' holds in a similar situation here.

"Contrat de premiere embauche" means "first hire contract", not "new jobs contract".

I just hope the French youths don't get out their grandfathers WWII rifles, after all they have never been fired and only dropped once.

So has Chriaq surrendered yet?

FRANCE: a society on the brink of chaos.

The Villepin government is making efforts to reform the French employment system to make it EASIER for businesses to hire those under 26.

They are ritoing against a measure that would allow businesses to fire or layoff employees within the firat two years of employment.

I know very little about the French employment apparatus beyond the fact that they have what, a 35-hour workweek? Is it near impossible to fire someone over there? Of course, government jobs are pretty much like that here, as well.

Sigh.

That's the way I understand it. The business reporter on Fox was incredulous about the reason for the rioting.

I'm not sure that he was ever identified to the West. It seems I recall he was imprisoned for a time then released. I could be wrong.
