Belzer Proclaims He Knows Better About Iraq than Uneducated Soldiers in Iraq

[Be advised that this item includes accurate quotations of vulgarities.] When Congresswoman Ileanna Ros-Lehtinen contended Friday night, on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, that servicemen she's met in Iraq are “saying 'we're proud of our mission, we know what we're doing over here. We don't want you guys in Washington to lose it over there,'” actor/comedian Richard Belzer condescendingly fired back, claiming that to “ask them” is “bullshit” since, apparently unlike him, “they don't read twenty newspapers a day.” Ros-Lehtinen cited the knowledge of her Marine officer stepson, but Belzer, who plays “Detective John Munch” on NBC's Law & Order: SVU, retorted: “Doesn't mean he's a brilliant scholar about the war because he's there.” A quite agitated Ros-Lehtinen sputtered: "Oh, you are though! You are though? Okay." To which Belzer affirmed: "Well I have more time...” Host Bill Maher interjected that Belzer's point was that a 19-year-old is in the army “because he probably couldn't find other employment." The Republican Congresswoman from Florida countered that her stepson is a college graduate, leading Belzer to snidely denigrate the military: "You think everyone over there is a college graduate? They're 19 and 20-year-old kids who couldn't get a job.”

Ros-Lehtinen mocked him: "Yeah, you know because you've been there." Belzer rudely lashed back: "What, I don't (bleeping) read!? Don't do that!" He went on to argue: "It's this patronizing thing that people have about if you're against the war everyone's lumped together. You know, the soldiers are not scholars, they're not war experts." That was too much for host Bill Maher: "You're going to lose even me...”

I saw this last night. It was pretty stunning, even for liberal idiots like Belzer and Maher. I mean, really, he is more of an expert on Iraq than a soldier that is there?!?!?! Because he reads the NYT?!?!? Video at the URL. To say this guy is a jerk is an understatement.

Belzer = Idiot, anti-American, left-wing fascist who is a millionaire for doing nothing but play acting. All should stop watching the NBC program and write letters to boycott all sponsors. This nonhuman is a total idiot.

Give Maher and Belzer the choice of being in a room full of islamofacists or Marines and lets see which ones they would choose.

It's obvious that long term abuse of controlled substances frees one from any inhibitions against making a total ass of oneself. Belzer is living proof.

Those "19 and 20 year old kids" helped win WWI and World War II. They fought bravely in Korea and Vietnam and the first Gulf War and in other wars and places around the world. They are heroes - and much better men and women than this Belzer creep will EVER be!! And most of them came back to be better contributors to society than he will ever be!

What a loser!!!!!!

Remember any of the sponsors we could write to or call?

It worked on the likes of Whoopi, Danny Glover, and Maher himself!

I may be wrong on this subject, but I believe our Military's recruiting standards are higher than they've ever been. As far as everyone in Iraq being there because they couldn't get a job, substitute the "N" word for "couldn't get a job", and you'll see where Mr. Belzer is really coming from.

I've always thought how utterly strange and un-believable it is that he and Ice-T, of all people, are playing cops.

Belzer is like a lot of the Hollywood actors. They play tough guy roles on TV and movies but when it comes to showing a backbone in the real world they show what cowards they are and how they don't stand with America and our troops.

Screw Belzer he was funny long ago when he was a coked up comedian

Reading 20 newspapers a day is not much different from reading one newspaper a day.

The jihadist's would love to get their hands on Belzer & Maher... just long enough to remove their heads. Unfortunately, they just dissed a guy who could prevent that from happening.

I gotta say, I am almost stunned by this. Maher is stating that the only reason soldiers volunteer is because they cannot find a "real" job. Belzer is claiming that American soldiers are just uneducated idiots.

Wow- When someone gets a list together on who we should write our protest letters to- please ping me.

The Pentagon recently indicated that only 25% of the population of age to serve in the military can qualify to get in. That means the military has higher standards than most colleges. And from what little I've seen of Law & Order SUV, apparently anyone can get accepted to "act" on that show.

Richard Belzer is an alumnus of Dean Prep in Fitchburg, MA.
So is my son, USMC, who is currently serving his second tour in Iraq. My son needed to attend a prep because he pretty much slept through his entire four yrs. of Catholic high school.
Dean was chock full of kids just like him, from all over the world. It is a very pricey summer school/band camp dumping ground. Is this educational background Belzer's basis for his superiority?

The Marine went on to attend 4 (count 'em FOUR!) out of state/tuition universities, no degree, frat boy, party guy,
no end to the headaches and worry. He joined the USMC on 9/12/2001. He should have gone in when he was 17 yrs. old.
Not every kid is college material. The Corps did for my son what his father and I could not...they gave him a sense of duty, a sense of pride and honor that nobody can get from "reading twenty newspapers a day".

BTW, my son is heir to his father's business, and has always known this fact. It wasn't the money and it wasn't a last resort. My son fights for his country and we am so very proud of him. Richard Belzer is just as ugly and repulsive on the inside as he is on the outside.
