GUATEMALA (AP). - - Seven type To in a public hospital of the capital raised to the amount of people died by an epidemic of the virus of influenza.
"They are the seven deads, are more deceases by respiratory diseases that could be influenza but we cannot confirm them", Roosevelt said to the director of the Hospital, Víctor Lopez.
The hospital, one of both great hospitals public of the capital, decided to suspend to 176 of its 3.100 employees who showed symptoms of the disease and acquired 2.800 vaccines to immunize its workers.
The authorities have discarded that could be a bud of influenza to make haste, less still mortal stock H5N1 of the disease.
At least 41 patients remain isolated, of whom 11 suffers of AIDS. Of the isolated ones, Lopez said, 30 have symptoms of influenza and remain in observation.
When it affects a healthful person, influenza common causes a strong influenza. Nevertheless, when infecting to a patient whose immunological system is depressed, the disease can be mortal.
"This it is a reference hospital, to where they send the most serious cases to us, people with AIDS, diabetes, cancer and other diseases. For that reason it is that almost all the patients are in risk ", added Lopez.
The deaths began to occur from February ends without until now it has been possible to control the epidemic in spite of the sanitary controls of the personnel of the welfare center. All the visits are suspended.
Anyone who can provide a more useful translation please do.
I hope this isn't anything but seasonal flu, if even that, but if they sent 180 staff members home with a highly contagious disease it can't be a good thing.

Flu Kills Eleven Guatemalans
Guatemala, Mar 17 (Prensa Latina) An influenza virus has invaded the Roosevelt Hospital in Guatemala City, where 11 of more than 110 patients have died up to Friday.
The first seven dead carried the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome and the other four died of diabetes, heart disease, malnutrition and cancer.
Health officials will do autopsies to determine the exact causes of death and may change antiviral medication because those the nation possesses are not effective against the H3N2 strain.
Nearly 180 workers of the hospital received temporary leave as they have run a fever or had coughing and breathing problems.
According to officials, the virus could have spread to San Juan de Dios Hospital, where there are three suspected cases.

Ok, well I know nothing about the flu except what I have read.
I'll ping more people and maybe more info will crop up.
What we don't want is for avian H5N1 to acquire genes from H3N2 or another human flu. I believe that H3N2, which is a Type A flu, has a reputation as one of the nastiest of the human influenzas.
Yep, if H5N1 mutates, I would like to see it become a weaker strain; not a stronger strain.
Hum. It seems intrepid FReeper Cindy has already posted the article I just posted. Next time, I should try actually reading the thread first.
