WASHINGTON, March 17, 2006 The commander of Multinational Corps Iraq has directed further investigation into events surrounding a Nov. 19 insurgent attack in Haditha, Iraq, military officials reported today. In the incident in question, Marines responded to an improvised-explosive-device and small-arms-fire attack on their convoy, Army Lt. Gen. Peter Chiarelli said in a news conference today. Reporters brought allegations of potential misconduct to the attention of U.S. officials, he said.
Chiarelli initiated a preliminary investigation Feb. 14 when allegations of possible violations of the rules of engagement were brought up.
On March 9, Chiarelli was presented with the initial findings of that preliminary investigation. Based on the recommendation of the investigating officer, he directed further review of the incident, he said
"We take these allegations of potential misconduct seriously, and they will be thoroughly investigated," Chiarelli said.

Marines responded to an improvised-explosive-device and small-arms-fire attack on their convoy, ROE kill the enemy, but reporters are corrupt and devious.

Probably the reporter wanted to raise another red flag to get his name in the news....

My first thoughts on reading the article also.
Perhaps, to clarify the situation, the ROE from the Vietnam era could be released to provide a sense of continuity and perspective.
Gasp!! You mean the Marines were not wearing pink tutus and black ballet slippers??!!! !sarc!

Which reporters? From where? What incident? This some crap made up by hippy journalists while they were smoking Lebanese blond at the hotel bar?
On its face, I wouldn't give any butt-sniffing New York reporter any credence. Leave my Marines alone, turd.

Yesterday morning I heard David Martin (CBS) report on this on "Up to the Minute." The taped report may have come from the day before? I looked for something on the web but found nothing. Martin indicated is was based on a press release from the Pentagon. As I remember, part of the allegation is that the unit used noncombatants as a human shield.

Just had a sudden chuckle on this after reading all the replies. Perhaps it's not as insane as anyone thinks what if based on the fact that charge/allegation was made the Commander said do the investigation knowing the Marines would come out clean as they had acted properly all so he then in the end charge the Reporter with making a false federal allegation and lying on a sworn federal witness statement in an active combat zone in a combat action.
If that's what the stern smile is on the commander's face then the reporter may need to worry about Fort Leavenworth behind the shadowy wall's accommodations are like and learning the Prison Papers Editor's name cause that may be the only paper he writes for for a loooooooong time.

They are doing what they are supposed to. take it seriously and investigate. My money is on the Marines being not guilty.

Mine too.
I suspect major collusion between the 'human rights group' and Time - and I wonder what any autopsies have found: but aren't they supposed to bury their dead by sundown?

As is mine. After that is settled let's hope they go after the Presstitutes and Mush-Mouth Murtha(s) for giving aide and comfort to the enemy.
