Parade Chairman Makes Anti-Gay Remarks

The chairman of the nation's biggest St. Patrick's Day Parade marched Friday while sidestepping questions about remarks comparing gay Irish-American activists to neo-Nazis, the Ku Klux Klan and prostitutes.

"Today is St. Patrick's Day. We celebrate our faith and heritage. Everything else is secondary," said the chairman, John Dunleavy, who wore a sash of the Irish colors.

Dunleavy was blasted by the City Council's first openly gay leader for the remarks, which appeared in The Irish Times on Thursday.

He told the newspaper, "If an Israeli group wants to march in New York, do you allow Neo-Nazis into their parade? If African Americans are marching in Harlem, do they have to let the Ku Klux Klan into their parade?"

About the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization, Dunleavy said, "People have rights. If we let the ILGO in, is it the Irish Prostitute Association next?"

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who is of Irish descent, said she didn't think Dunleavy's remarks were worth a response. She declined to participate in the Fifth Avenue parade after organizers barred an Irish gay and lesbian group for a 16th straight year.

Huge crowds lined the streets at the start of the parade, waving Irish flags, wearing green hats and carnations and painting clovers on their faces. The city's parade, with 150,000 marchers and up to 2 million spectators, is the nation's oldest and largest St. Patrick Day parade.

New York "is the kernel of the whole Irish community in the U.S.," said Joe Sanning, 52, an officer with the Ireland

"The comments bring to the forefront a longstanding bigotry, and the bigotry often translates into violence in our communities," said graduate student Emmaia Gelman, 31. She was among a dozen demonstrators organized by a group called Irish Queers,

can't celebrate a party without a 'hey we go to bed with the same sex' banner anymore

They already have their own parade for that. The point of their argument here is that they are trying to subvert Catholicism, which is vocally opposed to their "lifestyle."

well clearly they try that... but I don't think they will get to much publicity out of this activity.

How popular is suing the St. Patricks day organisators ?

The judges settled this some time ago. The St. Patrick's Day Parade organizers have a right of free association. They have said that gays are welcome to the parade as long as they don't make an issue of being gay by holding up signs or wearing special clothes.

This is nothing but another politician trying to force the gay agenda down our throats.

So did gays persecute the Irish?

The parade is in honor of Saint Patrick who is a saint in the Catholic Church. Gay type activity is against that religion. Sort of like showing up with statues of Mary and trying to join a Baptist parade.

the just get on your nerves - they don't kill you.

Patient Zero, The Air Canada steward, was responsible for infecting thousands of gay men with the AIDS virus.

He killed a whole lot of people.

"The Fighting 69th" also refuses openly gay participation. Just like every other US Military regiment. They have lost 19 brothers in Iraq, and year's parade is dedicated to them.

"I've always believed this is a city where all the parades should be open to everybody, and orientation, gender ... should not be the deciding thing," [Mayor Bloomberg] said.

Well, you see, Mayor, this is a celebration of an Irish saint of the Catholic church. Gays don't want to celebrate the beliefs of the church; they want the church to knuckle under to their perversion. So their reason for marching is a violence and an obscenity, and the church doesn't have to pretend it is anything else.

I'm failing to comprehend how he could have infected all of those men if he had been straight. What am I missing?

The parade is open to everyone, Mr. Mayor! Anyone, regardless of race, creed, or deviant sexual practices, is welcome to come and watch the Parade celebrated by Irish Catholics.

Note how the headline implies he should be making PRO-homosexual remarks.

The remarks correctly identify the homosexuals as being Nazi's (see Pink Swastika and how the homosexual rule/ed the National Socialist Party)

also note how the propaganda tries to equate the BEHAVIOR of homosexual to the birth origin of irish. Homosexuality is not a discriminated or immutable trait. It is a made up legal fiction to justify their abnormal sexual fetish as not their fault.

which "cheek" should he turn? His left a.s.p cheek?

Why am I intolerant, when I say that I believe homosexuality is a sin, but a gay man is not intolerant when he tries to "cram" his agenda on all of us?
