Don't all the women there have blond hair and blue eyes and are tall and statuesque?

Read Red Storm Rising Just what I was thinking. It was the oppening attack of Clancy's WW III. The Ruskies shut down direct US air and sea access to Northern Europe.

They sort of have a Swedish, mixed with Eskimo, mixed with Martian look going, but somehow it all comes together beautifully.
They don't look like hot girls from anywhere else.

they have weirdly hot chicks up there. "Weirdly hot"? I can picture "hot", but what is "weirdly hot"? Are they hot in a weird way?

If Bjørk is any indication, the answer would be no.

Too fracking bad. Iceland has always treated all servicemen -- except for white officers -- as social untouchables. They remind me of the topside folks in the SG-1 Episode "What Lies Below," where the swells live in a wonderful deluxe city and the rest are enslaved in subterranean mines. As O'Neill says, "You can do your own shoveling for a while."

Shatner-era Star Trek, green chick weird-hot, lol.

No kidding...we NEED to protect them (at least the MOIST ones)...

I agree. The Soviet Union may be gone but Russia is headed by a ex-KGB crook who wants to bring back the old ways.

Shatner-era Star Trek, green chick weird-hot, lol. Cool! I was thinking more along the lines of three boobs, or something like that.
I know, I know...the whole thread just got dumber because of me.

I entirely agree. IIRC, Iceland is the world's oldest democracy. And as you point out, they are very strategically located. This seems to be a bad decision from what I can tell.

I have a friend who has lived there. He too says the girls are gorgeous. He said they are basically pure blooded Vikings.

The U.S. military spends about $250 million a year to operate Keflavik
It's staggering how much money we waste. If there was one credible threat to this area... maybe. But there clearly is no rational reason to base there permanently.

Nah, the weirdness is a sort of otherworldly quality ... nothing that involves aesthetic peculiarities.
