Marry a Chinese woman for song and dance
Thu Mar 16, 7:43 AM ET
In a case of life imitating reality television, a 20-year-old woman in China has launched a national song-and-dance competition for top prize -- her hand in marriage.
Not only will the twinkle-toed bachelor get to marry the woman, he will also receive 100,000 yuan (12,300 dollars), a diamond ring and a chance to sign a contract with a record company, the Beijing Daily Messenger said Thursday.
Tryouts begin next month in five Chinese cities with the winner to be selected by professional dancers and an audience at a final competition in the southwestern city of Chengdu, the report said.
What about love for the woman identified only as "Jiao Jiao", or beautiful, and her prospective husband?
That can be slowly nurtured, Jiao Jiao's agent was quoted as saying.
But as in all good reality television shows, there is a sub-plot full of alleged ulterior motives and manipulation.
Jiao Jiao's parents have financed the scheme, contributing 300,000 yuan, in the hopes that she will become famous.
This week, the report said, a Shanghai cartoon company expressed interest in hiring Jiao Jiao to sing the theme song in one of its animated films.
Ping!
I don't think Master P will make it to the finals, but he might give it a shot.
Ummm she looks....experienced.
And she divorces him an hour later?
I have to share the same feeling. To me, she does not appear to settle down yet.:)
Whattya mean, "Ping". That sounds Chinese to me!!
Hummmm.... its like a combination of American Idol and The Bachelorette shows.
You make it sound like that's a bad thing..
.;)
Experienced? She looks like she's been down on everything but the Titanic...
Given China's one child policy my guess is that in a few years the Chineese men will be in the song and dance competition for even the homeliest of Chineese girls and not just the spoiled ones with racoon hats!
pronounced "wow wow"
You don't know the half of it. China's surplus-male problem is no joke, according to some scholars.
Well, there are two ways, beg or kidnap.
Um.. Half the teenage girls dress like that.
Let's not jump to.. ah forget it.. she a ho!
lol
meso
Jiao Jiao hen piaoliang!!!
She doesn't appear to be the type that EVER settles down.
isn't this like another form of prostitution?
