...her children, who range in age from 5 months to 15 years, have been watching television and playing video games to pass the time.Where did the money come from to buy the video games?
Laitaille, a native of the Bahamas who moved to Miami at 7 years of age, decided from an early age she wanted a big family.
Having a big family with a husband would be hard enough, but not marrying at least one of the fathers of these 10 children is unconscionable!

Also how can someone be a nurse in the USA and be unemployed? The demand for nurses is through the roof - it is so high that we import huge numbers of them to try and achieve appropriate staffing levels.

She was once engaged to be married to the man who fathered eight of her children, but he moved back to the east coast instead. Stuff like this, you almost think it has to be "The Onion."

In the meantime, her children, who range in age from 5 months to 15 years, have been watching television and playing video games to pass the time. Those who are old enough to go to school cant because they dont have a change of clothes. One wonders about having video games and not clothes to enable the children to go to school...but in any case, many churches have clothing "closets" where there are clothes free for the taking if one has need. Last I heard the one at my church was overflowing.

For her part, Laitaille has been living in a controlled state of anxiety. Reading the Bible, she said, has kept doubt from consuming her the way the fire raged through her Golden Gate house.Reading the Bible is a wonderful thing, but she should have had at least one other book available since she reached puberty. Any book. Any book at all, just as long as she held it tightly between her knees at all times.

She's made a mess of her life, so she reads Psalm 23. Geez.
I do have compassion for this woman - we all have done dumb things. And I had a major house fire, where I lost everything, so I've been there.
But having 10 children without a husband? No wonder she is jobless. She sounds like she is seriously deficient in the common sense department.
Maybe she should have read some of the other parts of the bible, like "fleeing from fornication" or Proverbs. I raised my sons on Proverbs. They are the best basis for a successful life you will find.

The article doesn't mention whether she gets child support, at least from the father of the first
eight of her illegitimate children. Not that I think it makes a difference: the kids really need a father. The courts should haul his @ss back there and force him to rear the kids with Laitaille until the youngest one graduates.
(As an aside, is it "Lie-tie", or "Lay-tail"? The former sounds more French; the latter sounds more accurate.)

I guess she never heard of public transportation. This article ticks me off instead of doing what it was intended to do. I have trouble being sympathetic to someone so irresponsible.
"The kids can't go to school, they have no clothes." --Lie
"I can't work because my van broke down."--Lie, ride the bus, get a job at the hospital, I see jobs all the time for nurses listed. There is a shortage.
"I was engaged but daddy moved to the east coast." Oh the horror, moving to spend your life with someone who fathered 8 of your children. Oh the humanity...

No clothes, so no school? Van broken, so no work?
Yeah ... by all means folks, give some money to help this bimbo out so she can carry on.

If this lady is a nurse, that is a very in-demand profession right now. She should be able to get a job working in a hospital with little difficulty. Of course hse is in a difficult personal situation right now.
She was once engaged to be married to the man who fathered eight of her children, but he moved back to the east coast instead.
This is just disgusting. At least someone is paying child support.

Kerren Laitaille, holding her baby Samuel Brown, 5 months, stands with some of her children during breakfast in their room at Hawthorn Suites in Naples.
I lost everything, said Kerren Laitaille, top right, holding her 5-month-old baby, Samuel Brown, after her home burned down on Monday. She is spending the week living in a hotel room at Hawthorn Suites with nine of her 10 children. The family has nowhere to go once the Red Cross stops paying for the room on Friday.

I deal with faith filled unmarried baby making machines daily as I ask them to pay their student loans for things like their nursing educations. They quickly mention the amount of children they have as a reason why they can't pay. I am always quick to ask if the government assigned the children to them or if they played some part in their arrival.
Whenever I hear about their faith that God will pay their bill, I remind them that if they really had faith they'd make a payment on their loan and trust God to find the funds for the rent. That's usually when Satan shows up and I get a nonstop collection of obscenities thrown my way.
Of course these people blame Bush for not doing enough to help the poor.
Our contract also requires us to call on Sunday and people demand to know why I'm calling on the Lord's Day. When I ask them why they haven't returned message throughout the week or why they're not in church I get the obscenities again. That's when I advise them to go to church, sit up close, take notes and try not to swear. Living your life like you don't know God while talking about your deep faith is hypocritical. Christians are known by their works rather than their words.
This "mother" gives every non-believer another reason to run from God. IMHO

10 kids??? I am disgusted. This woman needs to be given the stupidity of the decade award for having 10 FREAKING KIDS!?! I feel sorry they lost everything in a fire, I have had that happen and it sucks, but not that she is trying to figure out how to take care of 10 kids. With no 'baby daddy' around either?

I haven't been to a hotel in a gazillion years, but I hear they provide Playstations/XBoxes/video games to their guests. An establishment such as the one they're staying at, would have these amenities.
I knew when I clicked on this thread that I was going to read some nasty comments, but this one is realllly unbelievable, so far.
Let's see, the man who she was engaged to(wait for the preacher and the wedding band, honey)fathered 8 of her children, then took a hike. That does not make her a slut. Consider this: in many states, living together for the length of time it took to create 8 children constitutes a common law marriage. It says that she's been surviving on child support. I saw no mention of public assistance.
Now tell me how the woman was supposed to get job training so that she could be as good as y'all? Should she have aborted her kids? For some, a disaster is only a broken vehicle away from happening. Until that happened, she was working. As for the comments about her employment, these jobs consist of cleaning, cooking, helping the patient bathe, making sure they take their medication, and monitoring blood pressure. The pay is usually not more than minumum wage.
You don't get unemployment benefits if your vehicle breaks down. Btw, love the bus schedules. How is she supposed to take the kids to daycare, then transfer for a couple of hours(I've ridden buses when my transmission died), get to your job on time, then do it again to pick up the little ones? Get real.
Lighten up people. Always remember, "there but for the grace of God go I".
