Suddenly Savage: Moussaoui Mess-up Turns 'Today' Crew into Death Penalty Fans

I thought the MSM is ardently opposed to the death penalty? Aren't these the same folks who wrung their collective hands at the prospect of poor Tookie Williams getting the needle. Sure, he might have murdered four people in cold blood and joked about it, but hey! - he wrote a children's book.

So you might have thought that the Today show would be celebrating the federal lawyer whose goof might very well lead to Zacarias Moussaoui dodging death and instead becoming a lifelong resident of a federal facility.

But, no! The Today show was distraught at the prospect that "the 20th hijacker" might have slipped the noose [or the needle]. They went so far as to play a clip from a family member of one of the 9/11 victims saying that "I felt like my husband had been killed again." Shades of that NAACP anti-Bush ad from 2000. See item #2 here from this MRC report.

So what has changed since Tookie took his last breath that has turned Today so suddenly savage?

You don't suppose that they ginned up some faux regret over Moussaoui's death-defying act because it gave Today a chance to bash the incompetence of a lawyer who is, however tenuously, a member of the Bush administration?

Liberalism - an ideology of convenience and connivance.

More like:

Liberalism: One set of law for us, another set for everyone else.

I saw that clip of that woman yesterday. Just a wee bit overboard with her reaction.

Just another reason for a Bush-hater to go off again on national tv. I'm sorry for her loss, but I'll bet this same gal would've thrown herself between the syringe and Tookie, if given the chance.

The New York Times had a picture of that lawyer on the *front page* and a second picture inside as part of a feature length article on what an idiot she supposedly is. Incidentally, they're *giving* away the Times in New York today along with a coupon for a free cup of Starbucks Coffee if you deign to accept the paper.

Dear Christ, I wish some people would be less shrill with their endless bitching. The news isn't that Moussaoui might not die, it's that the government messed up big. The stakes were huge - the only person in U.S. custody accused of playing a role in the 9/11 attacks - and the idiot federal counsel committed a rookie mistake.

Some people just aren't happy unless they're bi#ching about something.

True, but it's not a question of Moussaoui walking free. The best he can hope for is life in prison. So if Today is making a federal case out of this, it is ostensibly because they're upset that Moussaoui isn't getting the death penalty, which rings hollow.

That's true too. What I was referring to was how easy it is for them, collectively, to modify or change a belief if it will help them damage the President.

Who cares - this tool will be conveniently bludgeoned to death in prison.

The only reason the MSM cared about 9/11 is that it primarily happened in New York City. If 9/11 were similar to the Oklahoma City bombing or was just the plane crash in PA, the MSM wouldn't care and would've contined whining that "Bush stole the election."

Exactly. This is the reason why terrorists should not be prosecuted under US law. They should be strung up and shot as illegal combatants.

Imagine if we had captured Hitler, tried him for his crimes, and had to let him walk because of some legal technicality.

So, is this rookie lawyer still working for the govt. or did he get the boot? I haven't heard anything on that issue.

If he hasn't been fired, he ought to be.

I'm no expert on the federal prison system, but I would guess that he would be given all sorts of protection, not mixed with the general population, etc. I'd say he'll probably be a lot safer there than he would be on the streets of Manhattan, and that by 2025 or so the MSM [if it still exists!] will be clamoring for his release because . . . he will have written a children's book!
