STRANGE INTER-LEWD: This is the cellphone photo of a straphanger who allegedly exposed himself.

Police yesterday were searching for a pervert whose picture was snapped by a quick-thinking teenage girl after he exposed himself to her on a Queens subway train......took place at 4:25 p.m. on March 3 as the girl was riding an eastbound No. 7 train between Queensboro Plaza and Woodside......

The 15-year-old girl was seated ....while the unidentified man was standing in front of her. Suddenly, he exposed his private parts, and the teen quickly snapped a photo of him with her cellphone camera.

The deviant stayed aboard .....to the end of the line at Main Street, Flushing....... is described as Hispanic, in his 30s, 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds.

Anyone with information is urged to call CrimeStoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.

The incident comes less than a year after a group of plucky Catholic-school girls.....captured the image of the pervert....as they rode the subway to their high school, Mary Louise Academy, in Queens......they rushed to show it to a nearby cop, who spotted the man about to get on a train and nabbed him.

Time for the libertarians to claim this is unwarranted intrusion on the guy's rights.

I understand that he's "in public," but how would you feel if you were identified in a newspaper as a perv for asking a 15-year-old to stop cracking her gum on the subway?

I think you are confused. No libertarian that I know of would object to what these gals did. Maybe you are really thinking of a libertine?

THIS would not be a invasion of any Libertarian's idea of "rights". He committed a crime, at which time she took his picture. Simple and straightforward good citizenship.......

It's merely you know who without his glasses.

Oh, don't bring up such complications! Little girls are sugar and spice and everything nice, and they ALWAYS tell the truth. Just ask Gloria Steinem. ;)

Why would you say something ignorant like this?

Oh yeah, stupid is as stupid does and you proved it.

I don't think that's the whole photo. The whole photo wasn't printable, if you know what I mean.

There was another case like this a few weeks ago. The perp was quickly identified as a well known restaurant owner/chef. IIRC that perp confessed, and the photo left little doubt. Odd that that case wasn't mentioned in the story, while a case from nearly a year ago was.

He committed a crime

A real libertarian would say that mere exposition of one's genitalia in public is not a crime -- it's just a little extra skin. The girl could have moved if she didn't like it....

Sorry, maybe I've just seen too many libertarians defending the indefensible -- but that's precisely the sort of argument libertarians use for things like prostitution and/or drugs.

This is a nontrivial risk. The picture taker should have actual picture proof of the crime committed, inspite of how vulgar the image may be. i.e. more than his face needs to be captured. ...though in the age of photoshop...

That's the core issue. I hope the decision to run the photo was made by an editor who understands the distinction I'm making. Unfortunately, I have little faith.
