Plans to construct safe houses for Jefferson Parish pump operators in times of bad weather were moving forward, Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard said Tuesday on the Eyewitness Morning News.
Broussard said the pump station safe houses should be finished by June 1, the start of hurricane season.
Broussard said the parish planned to construct eight safe houses, built to sustain winds of 250 mph by the beginning of the 2006 hurricane season. He cautioned that if they were not completed by June, then other sites would be provided for workers to stay.
Broussard said the parish did not have time to wait for federal aid and decided to take measures of their own in order to secure funding for the project.
"We've asked the federal government for money; we're asking the state for money, but were going ahead and borrowing the money ourselves to make sure these improvements are in for next hurricane season, Broussard said.
The parish council authorized the purchase of the safe houses during a previous meeting, Broussard said, and would consider borrowing money to deal with the side effects of storm surge protection near the 17th Street Canal.
Weepy Aaron was responsible, in part, for the flooding in Jefferson Parish by shutting down the pumping stations and now is brazenly taking bows while patting himself on the back.
This clown still employed ?
since 1982.
I live in Metairie and I have many relatives that had their houses flooded because of this idiot. For the life of me, I can't believe this vile human doesn't fall on a sword. We are working 7 days a week trying to rebuild our lives. The misery this POS has wrought is beyond belief. He said he tried "to save lives" by shutting the pumps off. What a liar. He didn't consider the lives loss due to stress of dealing with great loss. My 83 year old Aunt is near death because of the stress and depression of going back to her flooded home. Aaron should do the world a favor and resign and never be seen again. We stayed through Katrina and at no time did we feel our lives were in danger. By 3pm in the afternoon we were outside surveying the damage. Aaron was delusional stating that most of Jefferson's buildings would be destroyed. He is a typical leftist (and crook); he thought he was the star of some Hollywood disaster movie. I can go on and on about this nut.....
This guy is pure scum.
Do they have backup generators in case of power outage?
If not, what's the point in having operators standing by?
Do they have backup generators in case of power outage?
If the answer to either of these two questions is no, then some goverment officials need to be hauled off for long term criminal stupidity.
Perhaps after all the crying, he learned a valuable lesson?
NOLA is one of the few places in this country that makes me glad to live in the political wasteland of MA. Our politicians at least maintain a certain air of professionalism in their plundering of the state's treasury.
