...In the last five months alone, the Border Patrol has arrested 42,722 aliens with criminal records attempting to cross the border. Among them were 6,770 felons; 148 persons wanted in connection with a homicide; 42 associated with a kidnapping; 164 associated with a sexual assault; 298 associated with a robbery, 1,957 wanted for assault, and 4,161 connected with drug crimes. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, 139,000 of the 1.1 million people apprehended on the border in 2005 were criminal aliens seeking to illegally reenter the United States....

I am pleased that my Senate colleagues approved my amendment to modernize the fencing on the Arizona border with Mexico. Built properly, fences work: The fence in the San Diego Sector has dramatically reduced illegal immigration and drug trafficking across that sector. My amendment authorizes replacement of existing landing mat fences with see through fencing and expands the strategic use of that fencing as well as vehicle barriers....

I like the idea of a border fence but one guy with some bolt or wire cutters could do massive damage. I am not even talking illegals here, some of our very own OBL's might be down there letting more in.

"In 2005, the Border Patrol had 11,268 Agents patrolling 9,071 miles of U.S. border. That does not compare favorably with the city of New York, which employs 39,110 police officers to patrol its five boroughs. Until we have an adequate force of Border Patrol agents to protect our borders, and have equipped them with the technology and infrastructure they need to accomplish the mission, one cannot argue that it is impossible to protect the border."Interesting numbers. We need to build a fence or employ tens of tousands on the border. Much cheaper to build a fence.

(A) The proposed border fence is not your typical backyard home fence that you chat with the neighbors over; it is made out of thin but durable wrought iron, which is criss-crossed to prevent climbing over and will be electrified
(B) Border patrol units would patrol on the other side 24/7
(C) There's no need to build a huge, Great-Wall-of-China like wall when a fence can do the same job at more than two-thirds off the cost

That's what I'm talking about.

Thinking "FENCES" is not thinking Peyton.
The 30 million illegals are already here dear.
How many of them are "Jr. OBLs" is your guess.
Think "FENCE", think loser.
How much more of your kind of help do we get from you?

A question to all of you out there in FReepland.
Is it that the US gubmint is not able to control our borders or does the gubmint simply not have the will to control them?
