Secretive new video game might inspire school bullies [batjack Thompson]

A secretive new video game about school bullies could be targeted by Miami-Dade School Board members, who fear the repercussions of a game that is set in a school and includes fights, slingshots and possibly much more.

Little is actually known about the game, Bully, which was scheduled for release last fall but has been repeatedly delayed. Opponents of violent video games have been driven largely by its pedigree -- the game is being developed by Rockstar, the controversial designer of the ultra-violent Grand Theft Auto series.

In those games, which have been top sellers for years, players steal cars, hire prostitutes and brutally beat and murder enemies, police and bystanders. Opponents fear that Bully will bring the same graphic violence into the virtual schoolhouse.

''This game is built entirely around bullies and is staged in a school -- it's the antithesis of everything we're trying to promote,'' said School Board member Frank Bolaños, who introduced a resolution urging Rockstar not to release Bully, asking local merchants not to sell it and asking parents not to buy it.

From what I gather, it's actually much more akin to a ren'ai game, but with the dating simulation replaced with dealing with bullies. From what I understand, it's actually AGAINST bullying. Kind of like River City Ransom, though I doubt it's as clever.
I hope it gets released with an emulation profile for the 360, otherwise I'm going to have to get the old Xbox out of the closet and dust it off...

Also, I'm betting that Rockstar is secretly loving every minute of this attention. This game might have passed into obscurity with no one knowing about it, but thanks to Jack, it will probably be number 1 in sales for a while.

Well, my goodness, if it doesn't shove your agenda down people's throats, Frank, it MUST be illegal. (And probably Satanic!)

Rockstar is really good at using the media to gain publicity.

Can you say "Hot Coffee"?

Because, as we all know, bullying did not existed before the video game. High school was never a place where cliques ruled and the lesser athletic picked on...

asking local merchants not to sell it and asking parents not to buy it.

Which will increase demand.

I believe "jack" is an ex Freeper. He's an attorney that basically threatened to sue anyone here that called him on his BS.

Rockstar makes one of my favorite games :ManHunt.. They had the same exact hoopla when this came out. I've been looking for a part II to this game but it never materialzed. The only game that came just a "little" close to it was "The Suffering"...

You are correct — Batman Jack would even send people who disagreed with him or posted an article which he disagreed with insulting e-mails if you revealed your e-mail address.

With all the news on the entire Earth, an Internet at my fingertips, hundreds of online news sources, thousands of blogs and 20 channels of cable news.......this rates about -20 on my "who gives a crap" scale. Don't buy the damn game if it offends you.....
