New Iraqi Documents Show Bush Didn't 'Lie'
Newly translated Iraqi documents from Saddam Hussein's regime show that President Bush was factually accurate when he told the nation in his 2003 State of the Union Address that Iraq had recently sought uranium from Africa.
Bush's 16-word statement had formed the basis for the claim adopted by administration critics that "Bush lied" about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction programs.
But according to the Washington Times today, an unnamed U.S. official reports that "newly translated Iraqi documents . . . tell of Saddam seeking uranium from Africa in the mid-1990s."
The documents also speak of burying prohibited missiles, a government official familiar with the declassification process told the paper.
In his January 2003 address, Bush told the nation:
"The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."
The statement prompted former ambassador to Iraq, Joseph Wilson to complain to the New York Times seven months later: "I have little choice but to conclude that some of the intelligence related to Iraq's nuclear weapons program was twisted to exaggerate the Iraqi threat."
The new documents strongly suggest, however, that Wilson was wrong - and that the "Bush lied" mantra adopted by most Democrats since Wilson first made his complaint has been based on bogus information.
Confirmation on African uranium claim offered by Iraqi documents may be just the tip of the iceberg.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Peter Hoekstra told the Washington Times that about 500 hours of Saddam audiotape is still being translated and analyzed by the U.S.
And U.S. Central Command has 48,000 boxes of Iraqi documents, of which the military has delivered just 68 pages to his committee so far.
"I don't want to overstate what is in the documents," Hoekstra told the paper. "[But] I certainly want to get them out because I think people are going to find them very interesting."
I never thought that the President lied about WMDs.
Many would have been better served if he'd put up a more rigorous defense of the presence of WMDs and of Iraqi
ties to a number of terrorist groups to include Al Qaeda.
Those most injured by the terrible media skills of the President's information team are the soldiers of the US military.
They NEED daily to know that their sacrifice is the necessary thing to be doing for a just cause.

Thanks for the ping!
Thanks for the ping Tonk.
Just reaffirms what many of us already knew.
Here's a guess at their reaction:
"Hey, that's ancient history! Don't try to hang that on me, this is about the failed policies of the Bush White House. Show me the weapons. Show me the weapons!!! No, those are old GW1 weapons, I wanna see NEW weapons. Yeah, but it's just a trace uhhh.... BUSH LIED!"
Timing is everything. The "WMD was a lie" drumbeat has not reached its crescendo ... yet.
Waiting.....
Still waiting.........
Still waiting...........................................
BTTT
the yellow cake story was ALWAYS TRUE. The forged documents were planted by operatives (likely french) as a means to discredit the entire story.

If the Bush Administration is uninterested in broadcasting this information to the public, why should the mainstream media be interested? Either it's unsupportable as a matter of fact, or the Administration is becoming bizarrely detached from the need to support the war with factual information, particularly facts that would rebut the claims of the "Bush Lied" crowd. I can't explain it - maybe someone else can.
Well we've gone from undeniable proof of massive stockpiles in Iraq to 'strong' suggestions of raw materials somewhere in Africa. And from all places, Newsmax. Yep, that's about par for the course....
An example of how propoganda works...
Unfortunately for Libs/Dems, the INTERNET, and a blizzard of alternative Media choices means they no longer control the only sources of information....
FREEDOM OF SPEECH, and the free flow and exchange of IDEAS means doom for the left in America....
Good question, who knows, this White House has baffled me for sometime. I admire the President but he needs to start with a NEW CABINET and start KICKIN' a lot of A.
As a MBA who lacks great communication skills HE MUST KNOW that he has to have people out there that DO!!!!!!
Joe Wilson's lies, A timeline-Who Forged the Documents?
AND
They could hide/get rid of, tons of WMDs, but not some incriminating documents??!!
THANKYOU!!
I agree that it would have been better to stand up for what was right. But, no matter what the WH said, the LSM would have spun it the way they wanted it. It was lose/lose all the way. Like arguing logic with an insane person . . . or a Democrat.
