Does it mean that UAE is really gone from US ports? Or does it mean that they are just handing over managerial control to the US while still actually owning?
Good question. Some Congresspersons are wondering the same.
According to Jonathan Weisman of The Washington Post, to safeguard any loopholes a bill is proposed to make certain the UAE is completely OUT. Gone. En toto.
US President George W. Bush says that the Congressional reaction will damage US-Muslim relations. Rational persons ask if anything in the world can improve secure-never-to-be-broken US-Muslim relations. After all, we are dealing with a worldwide cult that can be friend today, foe tomorrow.

BTTT!
Aren't you somewhat suspicious of folks who kvetch about a government owned company holding a service contract for a government owned piece of property? I mean, what kind of capitalist is that?
Like any other multi-national, multi-billion dollar corporation, it will sell the business to another company, a wholly owned subsidiary of itself. It will probably even have an blatantly american sounding name.
Where did that come from?
I don't have a problem with private company doing business. It's the idea that a foreign govt. (Dubai) will be operating the terminals.
Get real. First things first.
Do you live on the West Coast, or what? They're like that you know ~
Just keep pretending you know what I am thinking.
The RATS jump the shark. Any legislation sticking a fork in a dead deal should be vetoed.
I think he is an employee, his political contribution records say so.
No, it's your "I don't need friends, I don't need allies" attitude that ensures this war will go on forever.
So screw the UAE port deal, and should they retaliate screw the UAE.
Let me see if I have this right: screw those who have put their necks in the noose for us, and then REALLY screw them if they don't like it.
Just out of idle curiousity, how often do you remain friends with someone who tells you to f*** off?
South Africa has already told us to f*** off.
If we have to lose our soveriegnty to fight the WOT then the price of war is too high and we have already lost. But, I suspect you have other intentions, and I grow tired of self serving anti-American socialist who are using the WOT as a smoke screen as they further their One World agenda.
Oh well.
Because I am utterly opposed to decision-making based on loudly-screamed falsehoods instead of the truth. I am utterly opposed to decision-making based on fear-mongering designed to boost certain loudmouths' radio ratings instead of being based on the truth.
Dubai is tiny part of the world and you act like it's the most important ally we ever had.
As Dubai goes today, so go Bahrain and Iraq tomorrow. Believe me, everyone in the Middle East watched this debacle--and some are now saying some really nasty things about how Americans are not trustworthy, and those nasty comments are gaining traction.
Basing rights are extremely important--too important to mess around with in the name of left-wing political talking points and talk radio ratings.
Imagine fighting Nazi Germany without any basing rights in Great Britain. Imagine trying to prevent a Soviet invasion of Western Europe without bases on the Continent. Imagine trying to eject Saddam Hussein from Kuwait without basing rights in Saudi Arabia.
Now imagine trying to contain Iran without any bases in the Gulf.
Dubai has the three most important traits for real estate: location, location, and location. Piss them off at your own risk.
We would not be losing our sovereignty.
But, I suspect you have other intentions, and I grow tired of self serving anti-American socialist who are using the WOT as a smoke screen as they further their One World agenda.
Retract your slander immediately.
I don't believe you took his rant as actual words.
"we are either stupid"
Yep, you're stupid.
It just totally amazes me how FReepers can be so ignorant. The security of the Ports in South Florida (lack there of) has nothing to do with the owners of the leases and everything to do with the LOCAL corruption that is rife. Plus add the fact that the passenger ships and cargo share the same facility at Port Everglades.
What a bunch of ignorant people. We will NEVER get port security in South Florida until we get regime change in South Florida.
You people are fools.
