Did Race play a role in the Port Deal discussions? The very charge is met by the likes of Sean Hannity and others with Righteous Indigination. In fact, to mention it makes you the true problem. Mark Levin in fact called a MAjor General a dirtbag over that charge. The below cartoons may be an issue now in the UAE. They are not cartoons about that ole darn prophet however. THere will be no boycotts over these but remember still they dont help things. The cartoonist just give us what we want sometimes. From MSNBC the following cartoon. There were many others that through the glory of the net are available to all.

Hugh Hewiit, one of the most ardent of Bush loyalists, opposes the port deal. You gotta be kidding me!?
Weird how this one breaks. A negative image from the Miers events. You and I are on opposite sides of this "ports" issue, but I'm sure we can continue a cordial and fun relationship as other events unfold.
Just goes to show that life and commerce and government defy simple categorization.

Repeating yourself over and over, doesn't mean you're right. You might give that "advice" some thought considering your own posts.

BTW, by educating yourself about ports and other nautical matters you undoubtedly ended up in the same camp as Jimmy Carter (concerning this deal) because you were looking at the same thing and using the same words in the same way.He had his reasons, I had mine. The fact that I "ended up in the same camp" as Carter is irrelevant to me.

BTW, the ground support team for the terrorists lived within half a mile of where I am sitting. They, and their taxis, disappeared on 9/11.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/2006/February%20Dailies/Dubai%20Ports.htm
Just 39% of Americans know that the operating rights are currently owned by a foreign firm. Fifteen percent (15%) believe the operating rights are U.S. owned while 46% are not sure.
Seventy-two percent (72%) of Americans say they have been following news about the Dubai Ports deal somewhat or very closely.
I do not believe the American people are idiots. But in one of Rass's polls they admitted that DESPITE having followed it closely, so they say, they do not know pretty basic facts. So high figures against the deal are pretty meaningless to me. If you're against and knew the facts, good for you, at least you were properly informed before giving an opinion. The American people as a whole were not.
To me, this indicates they did NOT follow it closely as they claim OR their sources of information did not adequately convey the facts. I think it's a mixture of both.
How, then, is this different from other periods like the NSA taps? Simple. Conservatives, the majority of them, came out strongly against on this from the start. And the President didn't come out strongly with the facts as he did with his saturday radio address re: the NSA taps.
Result? Liberals, of course, against. Republicans/Conservatives fractured in half. The FR poll bears this out, and so do the national polls. Whether anywhere between mid-60's to 80% against, the reality is those NOT against it are about half the GOP base. And Indy's hearing mostly negative conservative and Liberal press come out against. What, does anyone think moderates were going to go against the grain of Liberal and conservative bi-partisanship? ;-)
The polls aren't surprising. Just not credible IF your intent is to state the American people knew the facts and came to a well researched conclusion. That is, if you believe RASS is credible and his findings that the people believed false facts about this as true. I do.
If your intent is simply to say the people wanted the deal to fail, sure, valid argument. But valid on the supposition they were knowledgeable about the subject in question? That I strongly disagree with.

YIKES! That's the last time I volunteer to transcribe a radio show. It took me a good 30 minutes to get the first few minutes. But, as they say, I report, you decide.
Transcript: Mark Levin Show Thursday 9 March, 2006
As heard on WBAP - Ft. Worth, Texas beginning at 1806.
Good evening my friends, this is Mark Levin. Our number is 877-381-38-11. 877-381-3-8-1-1.
We are scheduled to have Tom Delay on in about a half an hour. A good man. Talk a little bit about his great victory as well as the ports deal.
I just saw something that troubles me a great deal. As you know, I do speak from my heart here and my mind most of the time, but the point is I speak openly and honestly to you. Even when we get into difficult situations.
And I saw General Abizaid at a press conference on Fox News after a hearing of some kind. And he said that this port deal, and I paraphrase, was about ... no I don't paraphrase ... arab and muslim bashing. So I guess that's telling you 70% of the American people I'm sick to my stomach with those mud balls. Absolutely sick to my stomach with them. I will not tolerate it here or anywhere else. Maybe some of it is, but most of it is not.
The American people are not racists. The American people are not anti-Mexican or immigration when they stand up against illegal immigration. No more. Not here, even when it is spewed by a general.
Maybe, you know generals have been wrong in the past, but this is not his area of expertise. I understand he has a Lebanese background, but so what? That doesn't mean you get to condemn most of the American people.
Shame, shame, shame on you.
Now I think it's over. As long as the spewing ends from some of my own side, I think it's over. Far as I can tell. This UA-E deal.
And the Senate liberals are very depressed tonight. They are hanging their heads you can see it all over television. They thought they had a big issue. They thought they sold the American people. Schmuckie Schumer still fights. He said the devil's in the details. So Schmuckie is still chasing his tail.
Harry Reed still wants a vote on the nonexistent deal, proving once again that some people were affected by nuclear tests conducted in Nevada 40 years ago.
[He goes on from here, but I think this covers the comments in question]

Longshoremen UNLOAD ALL ships and party, that is one of the core sticking points for the Dems...DPW was going to spend their own money and modernize their LEASED terminals, which would have meant that some longshoremen would NOT be working at their
leasedterminals!
It's actually Sir William Shwenk Gilbert, whom I threatened you with ( and did post you some lyrics by, which you never commented upon and broke my heart ); not Sir Arthur! There no way ton post sheet music. :-)
