I also know that neither company OWNED/OWNS the terminals, nor would either be in charge of PORT SECURITY nor the UNLOADING of the ships.

Ummmm ... not that I know the exact legal structures, but P&O/DPW owns something that resembles "terminals" at least to the extent of having long term leases that support a capital investment in buildings and other infrastructure on land owned by local government entities.

Whoever is handling the containers is necessarily involved in unloading the ships. I'd say P&O/DPW is most directly involved in this regard.

But a segue here is timely, becuase P&O/DPW dosn't directly undertake the unloading and transfer activities. It has US subsidiaries, Joint ventures, and in short, a shitload of other company names come into play.

I wish I knew the details, I'd lay them out here. But looking at Miami as an example, there are enough players - it makes wrapping the mind around the deal more than easy.

Now, time for you to quote Sullivan, per your promise.

If I say it...it's like the gospel! ROFL! /s

The only RACE factor in the port deal was the HUMAN RACE. "Great ally" in WOT, okay....why weren't they doing the RIGHT thing all along? Took 'em long enough!

That was good of you. I knew I was readig some craziness if you could buy 6 major US seaports for a billion dollars.

Just doesn't happen. Wondered why I wasn't notified of the bid because I could have gotten banks to back me for $1,000,000,001 on something like that.

(I almost bid on a surplus AMTRAK locomotive years back. Didn't 'cause I only had $10 spare at the moment, but found out later that if I had bid, I'd have won. There was no reserve and no one placed a bid. Now what would I have done with a locomotive? The demurrage would have killed me Fur Shur.)

I don't understand this at all. Aren't Arabs a nationality and not a race?

Great post. NEVER FORGET!

I'm actually shocked at the number of FReepers who think the port deal was a good one. How can we let foreign entities have any control in our ports, even if it is just management, after what has happened? We are at war with their brethren, for pete's sake!

It is easily understood. It split the voting blocks.

The last poll had 7,676 votes cast. This one is only up to 2,273. You might aught to wait a bit before trying to prove you were correct with an as yet unfinished poll. But I believe I can see where it's going to end up. Just about the same as the last one.

All those airplanes were under complete American control, had American pilots, etc.

So what was it you were trying to say?

Amazing, isn't it?

Hewitt often gets mocked for being a pom-pom waver, so it's certainly of interest when he isn't towing the WH line.

He said the office he worked for in the Reagan WH was concerned with counter intelligence. Something that looks innocent on the surface could be valuable for intelligence gathering or for planting an agent. The Dubai leadership could be completely on our side, but it's not the leadership who needs to be the threat. Giving them this deal could allow someone at a lower level, who is quietly supportive of al Qaeda, to learn far too much about how we do security at the ports, and to recruit and set up a network.
