A large tornado has moved through Illinois and has just hit the City of Springfield. Spotters reported a large tornado moved through the city. Damage is being reported. Emergency responders are being called in from surrounding areas.
NWS reports that this was a large wedge tornado.
make that ne ks
thanks.....
SW St. Louis County, eh? Well, we are practically neighbors, lol. I'm in West St. Louis county. I hope you don't get any bad weather your way. Right now, it seems like it will all go north of us. At least, I sure hope so. I can't imagine getting hit by a "wedge tornado" at ANY time, but being in one at night would be really bad. Prayers for all folks in the paths of these storms. Stay safe MOgirl!
I'm here in Affton and nothing here yet. There is a line on storms just east of Kansas City that we will get later tonight. They look ugly on Doppler.
Just heard. In NW IL and Eastern IA, we are experiencing horrible storms, tornado warnings, hail, winds, and flooding. Homes are on fire in Davenport, IA due to lightening strikes, motorists have been stranded in floating cars.
Luckily, I still have power for now. Warnings/watches until 2 am.
9 p.m.
SPOTTERS REPORT A LARGE TORNADO ON THE GROUND STILL NEAR MT PULASKI, ILLINOIS
Looks bad.
My brothers are north of St. Louis,...maybe I better call them,
How are things were you are? We have a bad one going on here. A little calm right now, but more expected.
Just talked to my Dad again, by Lake Springfield, and they went outside (power is still out across town) and said that the power plant sounds like 4 jet engines revving their engines on high; very unusual sound. I guess power lines are down, too - they just heard about numerous lines down across Dirkson Pkwy. Knight's Action Park, right off of 72, was supposedly hit, too.
More to come?
If Rick Santorum gets his way on his legislation to block public access to the National Weather Service data, that's all you're entitled to.
DUCK!
Quad Cities, that's where I am. It's been bad. Not as bad as Springfield though. Prayers for the state capitol.
Don't you hate that? They're SO desperate for disaster that they REPLAY old Hurricane reports. Forget current, actual weather- on the Weather Channel?? Silly us! It's storming outside and they're showing a 'Gardening Tips Magazine' type show!
Local Springfield network is using backup generators to broadcast...
Hope not!
Leni
I was a little scared for awhile...then it started tracking NE and just missed us......more severe storms later....it's gonna be a long night..
Call Mayor Nagin
Prayers for your Dad.
Are they getting out to survery the damage? No one seems to know, at this point, if it was widespread or just pockets of damage around the SE part of town.
