A large tornado has moved through Illinois and has just hit the City of Springfield. Spotters reported a large tornado moved through the city. Damage is being reported. Emergency responders are being called in from surrounding areas.
NWS reports that this was a large wedge tornado.
I just talked to my friend in Lafayette IN. She informed me that they are currently experiencing a major lightening storm and she is grabbing kids and heading for the basement. Her dear hubby is in CA looking for a job, so she is hone alone with two kids. Sounds like a long night in the basement for her and the kids.
Tell me about it. I just went to a link that is supposed to have my local weather, and it only has a "drive time" forcast for tomorrow, grrrrrrr.
New Orleans ?
How dumb is that? We are still in a tornado watch area here in OK but there is no moisture around that I can find. Looks like the boxes from the National Weather Service are moving into Indiana shortly.
Super Cell is now south of Peroria (sp) IL -- looks to be heading toward Indiana.
We are under a tornado watch until 4:30am....I'll sleep with the tv on tonight.........damage reports are starting to come in for Springfield....
Godspeed, friend.
Im up near you (Lake Bluff/Lake Forest) it was really bad about 30 mins ago...calm now but radar looks like we're in for more later
Keep your head down for the next hour or so. I'm just south of the path of the current bad stuff (in Kewanee).
LOL......NO!

Man...I was really looking forward to a good nights sleep tonight!
Oh well..down to the basement with a radio. I'll be sleeping on the couch tonight with the TV on as well.
I feel for your friend! I spent a long afternoon behind the water heater in the basement/garage of a home we were renting out on Jackson Hwy. in W. Lafayette back in 1981. Our only child at the time was about 1 1/2, and there was nothing down there but some croquet balls, and a couple of books I'd brought down to distract him. A tornado DID touch down that day, about 5 miles east of us, hitting a restaurant that had been destroyed a few years before by another tornado.
This is what we're in for tomorrow. Take good care!!!
spoke too soon....wicked lighting just struck really close....now its pouring again
It's been calm for about the last half hour, but the wind is starting to pick up again. Here we go!

everybody remember to unplug your modems (or cable modems) from the incoming signal when you have lightning close. lightning a mile away can fry your machine.
This seems early to already have the tornadoes so far north. Usually they come through the southern plains in March and then move north later in the spring.
Super Cells all over the place according to TWC. Many tornado warnings. One Super Cell moving out of NE OK into Fayetville, AR. Nasty area east of Tulsa up into Kansas in tornado alley heading into MO/AR.
