Having our ships in Dubai is a business deal too, one that profits both parties. It's not a favor the UAE is doing us. According to cva66snipe, we could as well use India ports, just as strategically. And an alliance with India is one I wholeheartedly support; I'm glad to see this admin furthering that, partly because India is a democracy AND they will surpass China in population 2010-2012.

So, fine. However, the repeating of buzz words by proponents of DPW's deal does not bolster the claim that their position is based on fact and reason.

I invite you and anyone else here to look into the provisions of CFIUS, a Committee that was formed by Executive Order in 1975 and which operates by a process that needs to be updated to post-9/11 times.

Although the issue started with one business deal, it has rightly shed light on national security and any glitches that need to be fixed.

Members of Congress actually listened to the constituents who contacted them. And they took action. We now await an American buyer and that's where it stands.

given that if all you say is true....

why are these same people not dealing with the security "glitches" on the border?

I suspect because no unions have lobbied Schumer to do so...

No offense, but senators and representatives reacted rather than doing their jobs in getting the information before running to the cameras with wild accusiations and claims. There were very few voices of reason, saying they needed more information before making a premature, uninformed decision.

As Brit Hume said today (paraphrased) this is the best example of leadership since the anthrax scare, when they all ran away from the capital buildings from fear.

HOW could the Congressweinies have heard from their constituents that fast..and with those constituents having the whole story???

I was on the fence, waiting for the information to come out...so I could make up my mind...but while I was sitting on that fence, I was watching Jerry Lewis put a Stop the ports deal in a Supplemental Bill to supply our TROOPS...USING them..to get his way!!

HOW did that inform me??? How did Lewis or his constituents know all the facts by then??

All eeeevil and I are complaining about is the "process" that the detractors used to quash the deal...after demanding that Bush give them 45 days to check it out...

How can we trust them to make reasoned decisions in the future about anything, if we can't trust them to keep their word that they will wait for a review before making up their minds??

Utter nonsense. First there is no guarantee we could get basing rights in India. Amazing how he same people who squealed about "outsourcing" now want to pretend they never were as feverishly bashing India and they now bash Dubai. Also, this is more "ugly Americanism". They just assume that India would willingly accept the American ships just because we asked. Actually, it is highly doubtful, based on India's internal politics, that they would allow anyone basing rights.

There is also the little problem that the Ports in India suitable are considerable farther from the the Operations area thus adding wear and tear to the ships as well as extra travel time. Be stupid to add to the time our ships would be off station.

Finally it is just a lie to claim the Port Deal "has National Security Implications. That lie was nuked after the 1st three days. People who STILL claims this simply refused to listen to ANY of the facts presented by the Port Deal Supporters. That security claim is just the nonsense thrown up by the Neo-Isolationists to justify their knee jerk reaction. After jumping to erroneous conclusions, the Port Deal Critics simply shouted down anyone who TOLD THEM THE FACTS rather then admit their initial reaction was erroneous. It was bigotry, hysteria and arrogant ignorance that killed the Port Deal, NOTHING else. There is not one single valid reason to oppose the deal.
