Actually, deals like this go through a division of the Justice Department. But, from what I've seen in the past, they seem to be selective on what they think is good or bad and they tend to favor politically connected companies and mergers.

BTW, it's been better under Bush than it was under Clinton. No surprise, I know.

Hunter is a media whore idiot. Amazing that the "Conservatives" are looking for MORE crap to put the Federal Govt in charge of. This keeps up there WILL be a "Perot" style movement in 2008. The out of control spending is bad enough, the hell with the Republicans if all it means is voting for Democrat lite. STUPID Politics, stupid, stupid, stupid.

Agree. And I think far more folks here support the Pres than they do their Congresscoward. Pubbies in Congress would do well, in more ways than one, to get behind the Pres pronto, and, if they have disagreements, discuss them w him in private.

"Funny the Dems for the little guy haven't mentioned how that mega deal will make it harder for small to mid-sized terminal operators to compete."

The only thing Dems care about is the size of the campaign donations these companies/unions give them under the table.

I presume it is the anti trust commission or whatever you call it.

Unfortunately in both cases they talk a good story but rarely do much expect scupper a good deal but let the bad ones go through

66 Nuclear Triggers - Krytrons

An Israeli ex-pat, Asher Karni, living in South Africa, ordered a couple hundred Perkins Elmer GP-20B switches. The devices are dual-use technology, and on a US export restriction list. Pekins Elmer was suspicious of the order, and tipped off US authorites. They prepared a shipment of 66 DISABLED switches and sent them to Mr. Karni.

Karni shipped the switches to his customer in Pakisatan, via Air Freight, routing through Dubai.

Karni was arrested when he and his wife came to the United States for a ski vacation. He was tried and plead guilty to violation of export restriction laws. He was recently (August 4, 2005) sentenced to 3 years, and is in jail.

A few links turned up in research ...

I think you have most of this correct...

no one has all the facts because Congress can't count to 45.....I don't think snugs was calling anyone names....other than COngressCritters..maybe...

the knee-jerk comes from, again.. no one having the facts because the LYNCH MOB in DC can't count to 45....

I agree our relationships don't hang on one business deal...

but when a country lets us put our MILITARY WARSHIPS ON THEIR DOCKS... but we won't let them do business in ours.. that is certainly a bigger issue than just a business deal...

think about it.. would Iran or North Korea welcome our BATTLESHIPS in THEIR PORTS?

I m not going to argue the deal itself.. it is the knee-jerk of turning 45 days into 6 that ires me....

(just in case no one knew that by now..LOL!)

Thanks for the clarification and yes unfortunately in most cases the deals go ahead regardless.

I had a similar experience, just reversed. I originally opposed the port deal but changed my mind after doing some research and learning about a number of things. More information might have changed me again, after hearing Duncan Hunter this morning. Plus, I agree with Hunter on what appears to me to be common sense to reevaluate past transactions that inpact national security today.

Having said that, the animosity the issue provoked went over the line by both sides of the debate too often.

Can you imagine anyone saying they were going to lecture the Queen of England?

Snugs, I can think of only one person who could have done it.

Nutcase links, re: Karni, etc.

http://www.originaldissent.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16865

http://www.newsfollowup.com/leakgate3a.htm

Karni's e-mail traffic to and from Khan was being intercepted by a covert agent in South Africa and being forwarded to U.S. authorities. It is not known whether the covert agent was a Brewster Jennings' asset but it would not be surprising considering Karni was an important link in the A. Q. Khan nuclear smuggling network. ...

Israeli nuclear arms smuggler Asher Karni: His links to Bush administration and Israeli officials may have been the real reason Valerie Plame and Brewster Jennings & Associates operations were exposed. ...

I think this is saying the REAL REASON Plame was leaked was to stop the investigation of US and Israeli complicity in selling nuclear detonators to Iran, then using that fact they had them, would be another false reason to attak Iran! Like the false WMDs of Iraq.

The recent Central Asian news also points out that US Special operations are supporting Islamic extremists in order to overthrow regimes that do not wish to cooperate with US corporation oil dealings.See the Wayne Madsen report and your local newspapers, how Central Asian countries are banning U.S. forces from their cities.

Now they are saying that Molosivich had sent letters to people saying that he feared he was being poisoned.....

Oh boy! here we go...

I am sure THIS is Bush's fault too.....

(wonder why CLinton had him poisoned?)

I was just using the port deal as an example of how Sean Hannity tends to knee jerk.

As I said regardless of this tendency he did promote and work hard in 2004 for the Bush/Cheney ticket.

He will again be pushing the Republican line in the mid terms and for that reason alone I think that the baby should not be thrown out with the bath water.
