How much do you think a full page ad or half page ad in the Gulf weekly would cost. I am thinking of organizing a half page or full page ad apologizing for our Congress's conduct and having as many names of americans I can get on it

Article from Thread:

Dubai has triumphed
Gulf News ^ | March 12, 2006 | Habib Toumi

Posted on 03/12/2006 2:59:23 AM PST by PrinceOfCups

DP World will not manage six ports in the US as initially agreed, but the aborted deal has achieved for Dubai an outstanding triumph by any yardstick.

First, and as Ghassan Tahboub, media manager in the executive office of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, said, it is an invaluable lesson. "It was an exercise you have to live with, win and then learn from. This was America. There are lobbies, politics and interest groups, and Dubai found itself in the middle of a jungle. In the end I have to thank everybody there for this lesson," he said.

Then, Dubai has gained the greatest international publicity possible and people anywhere can now name the emirate that has laid bare an obstinate mindset of racial discrimination and ethnic prejudice that no public relations gloss will ever cover.

It has also shown beyond any doubt that its amazing success story has never been a cheat and that the geographically small emirate could now compete with the most advanced economies of the world.

Cairo in the 1950s and Beirut in the 1960s succeeded to define trends, but it was mainly on political issues. Dubai in the 2000s thanks to its pro-globalisation trends is showing values that promote success and prowesses that indicate leadership and triumph.

Dubai has demonstrated that while it is moving vibrantly ahead with globalisation, other countries that have always championed free trade are now shackled by a xenophobic tsunami and are likely to feed a global backlash against globalisation.

It has shown the world that the US economic anxieties are being senselessly fuelled by nationalist sentiments that seem to be inexorably on the rise.

The port deal debacle has also proven that Dubai possesses a broader mind than the US when it comes to welcoming and promoting investments and that its openness is genuine and not decided by race or creed.

Last week, US Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez told Gulf News in Manama that the decision against DP World was not racially motivated. Either he was not aware of the strong anti-Arab powers within his own country or he did not wish to hurt our feelings.

Either way, the truth is here for everyone to see and contemplate: Dubai is an economic power that is re-writing books and all those who opposed the port deal should think in that direction and should appreciate that it too can cancel deals.

US economists were quick to bandwagon the belief that the flap over the ports acquisition is unlikely to make a consequential dent in foreign investment flows into their country. But Arab analysts predict that this unwarranted hostility will certainly affect Arab investments in the US and will make US assets less attractive to Arab buyers.

Economically, DP World's takeover was never a special case: a state-owned company from the Middle East is buying an American asset already managed by a non-American entity. Suddenly, ethnicity, tainted by hostility and envy, and not a proven success record, became the guidelines to assess the deal.

America has always been comfortable with most multinationals that invested in the United States because they came from Western countries and are unlikely to be subject to such scrutiny. However, the United States is obviously becoming a less welcoming place for investment from Arab countries.

The port deal opponents should appreciate that their public statements might secure them some political benefits, but will most certainly have grave economic consequences.

Re: Feingold wants Bush censured

I see this as a gift from the heavens above. Nothing says WEAK ON SECURITY like trying to punish a President that is trying to protect the country from al qaeda operatives. Every lefty distorted poll shows the country is firmly behind the President on this issue. The pollsters can't even skew the results by calling it "domestic spying".

Frist better bring this immediately to a vote. I'd like to get the Senators on record as saying the President is not allowed to spy on al qaeda within our countries borders.

I knew the democrats would overplay their good fortune on the ports deal.

The DPW fallout is a dark time for our country. Some of our leaders put possible political gain ahead of patriotism and good sense and opted to run with slogan-ism and racism. Sad day for the country. We need to realize that all countries, all people and all companies are not the same, hopefully one day we will.

Hannity is just not too bright. He can not stray too far from his talking points, thus the repetition.

He really lost it in my eyes with the weird focus on the runaway bride.

I know you can't do politics on every show, but...Tabloid Hannity.

I used to Watch Fox and Friends every morning, kept the TV on Fox all day. John Scott, and Gibson, and Brit Hume,Hannity and Combs, etc. would be playing and when I could get a few minutes I would watch. Ever since Katrina and that truly awful performance by Shepard Smith and some other Fox reporters that should have stayed in Studio, I cannot keep Fox on for more than 10 Minutes. They have become so unwatchable at times, I am not sure I have the right station on. The Local Tampa Fox affiliate is much more fair and balanced and they use a lot of FNC stories/Reporters, they just do not trash everything GOP and President Bush. I would venture a guess and say I am certainly not alone. Sometimes it takes Conservatives a longer time to realize that someone has gone to the other side. Joe Scarborough has been acting schizophrenic for more than two years and he has just been recently losing a lot of Conservative viewers. He has been bashing Bush and Republicans so long I cannot remember when he was quoted as saying ANYTHING positive about anything GOP. It is not just because of who he works for, he has totally changed personality wise also.

"For example, I really believe one of the reasons McCain wanted campaign finance reform was to get out from under his own states party base not supporting him."

Interesting thought, Morgan. And, he conveniently didn't include $$$s from tribes in CFR as he does get $$$s from them.

You can transfer your TIVO programs to video if you also have a VCR hooked up. I don't see any way you can transfer to DVD. We have a DVD recorder hooked up to the same TV as TIVO, but I can't figure out how to do it.

Yes. He's just trying to get his name out there and $$s from his supporters as he tries to run for President. Wolfie brought it up on his show w Warner and Levin - - didn't get their responses, but I think the jist was that they weren't going there and didn't agree w FG.

Your world will change. You can program your TiVo from the Internet (Yahoo) or soon from your cell phone. I also love that if I dont catch a statement clearly, I can pause and rewind in real time and hear it again. Get a unit with the biggest disk drive you can afford. No matter how much you get, you will use it ALL, and it wont belong before your unit starts telling you that it has to start deleting stuff early to make room for all the stuff you intend to record.

I could not agree more! What makes me crazy is that I have gotten so used to the ability to rewind (Did he say what I thought he said?!) that when I hear things on the radio, I want to rewind it and I can't. Dang! I bought Tivos for my sons in college because I don't want them wasting their (valuable) time watching ads. They can watch a sports event or 24, etc in much less time. Yesterday I TiVo'd the BC- UNC game for one son who was en route back to Boston during the game. It is very easy with on line scheduling as long as all your boxes are on the same network. What did we do without it?

Wow, I can't believe he didn't know who you are...must have been acting.

It's hard to dislike someone you know in person who seems like a nice guy, and Buchwald probably was...I just thought his obsession with Nixon, etal, really hurt the low-key amusing stuff he used to do.

I suspect the Swift Boat Vets have issues with McCain abandoning the POWs in Viet Nam. There is some information that he shredded original documents that seemed to prove there were live prisoners still in VN
